Bristol City were narrowly defeated 2-1 on Tuesday night away from home to Leeds United, a game that not many fans would've expected them to get something from given their form this season.

The defeat means they remain hovering over the relegation zone just three points clear from the drop, a worrying sight with only not many games remaining.

Managing just one league win in 2017 - a 2-1 victory against bottom side Rotherham - the worrying prospect of relegation back to League One is becoming a very realistic outcome for the Robins, and manager Lee Johnson is trying everything possible to ensure that this isn't their fate come May.

With important games fast approaching in March against fellow strugglers Wigan Athletic and Burton Albion, the Robins need to find some form and fast if they want to stay clear of the drop zone.

With 15 games remaining, there is plenty of time to turn their season around, and plenty of opportunity to widen their narrow gap from the bottom three.

Here are THREE reasons Bristol City can and will avoid relegation to the third tier of English football this season....

Tammy Abraham

The prolific goal scorer on loan from Chelsea has been outstanding for Bristol City so far this season, bagging an impressive 18 goals from 30 games in the Championship.

However, it remains to be seen how much more of the season he will play, after suffering a thigh injury in the defeat to Leeds.

The 19-year-old has been a real threat to the opposition throughout the season, emerging as the leagues third highest scorers, behind Leeds' Chris Wood and Newcastle's Dwight Gayle.

The youngster is really showing his talent and what he has to offer during this loan spell, and is no doubt exciting Chelsea fans with the potential he has for the future.

However for now he is doing a fine job at seizing the opportunity of regular first team football, and helping his side during their battle against relegation.

The especially great thing about is that no other relegation struggler has a prolific striker like Abraham, giving Bristol an excellent advantage over the rest of them.

This advantage should also help them for the rest of the season, as his goals will surely earn his side priceless points that will push them further away from the drop zone.

Home form

Out of the bottom 7 sides, Bristol City have the best record on home turf, with 7 wins from 14 games.

Whilst that may not sound too impressive, compared to those around them, their home form is guaranteeing them points that others can't.

Furthermore, still to come this season are home ties against fellow strugglers QPR, Wolves and Burton Albion.

Should they manage to secure victories in these fixtures chances of survival will be dramatically increased, and given their home form the chances of them winning are likely.

If Bristol City can continue to make Ashton Gate a fortress, whilst still gaining the odd point away from home, then relegation shouldn't be an issue for The Robins at the end of the season.

January signings

Bristol City were certainly busy over the January period, securing 7 impressive signatures to add to their squad.

Bailey Wright, Matty Taylor and Jens Hegeler are just 3 of the quality purchases Bristol City made to help secure their place in the championship next season.

As with all new signings to a club comes issues, one being that it can cause a disturbance to the squad, especially with so many new faces coming in. This can lead to a bad run of form that may be to blame for City's lack of wins so far this year.

However the experience and high-quality Lee Johnson brought into the club should be settling down now, which should see an improvement in results over the upcoming weeks.

All going well Bristol City should be able to string a good run of results together, which should set them clear from that dreaded relegation zone.
