Queens Park Rangers will be hoping to get back in the hunt for a play-off place this season after a disappointing campaign last time around, finishing in a bitterly mediocre 12th place in the Sky Bet Championship.

The Londoners appointed Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink as the club’s new manager back in December and he has been charged with making the R’s a Premier League club once again by the club’s hierarchy.

QPR currently sit in fifth in the second tier after a solid start which has seen them win three games and lose two, with the club striving for an element of consistency over the coming months.

With a lot of deadwood still remaining in the squad the R’s could look to offload some more players in the January transfer window, with a high wage budget still present after some pretty ordinary spending during their short stay in the Premier League.

Football League World writer Lee Clarke takes a look at three members of the QPR squad who are overrated.

Jamie Mackie

Queens Park Rangers fans seem to love Jamie Mackie but to say he is short of quality would be a massive understatement.

Mackie is quick and hardworking but that is as far as his positive attributes end, with inconsistency and a series of injuries curtailing his progress in recent years.

The 30-year-old is a largely frustrating performer and his passion is sometimes mistaken for genuine quality. If the R’s are serious about promotion back to the top flight, then they must look for better than Mackie.

Joel Lynch

The former Huddersfield Town defender was a surprise addition to the QPR squad in the summer when he joined for a fee of £1 million.

Lynch is a fairly ordinary Championship performer and the fact that he is yet to feature in a league squad for the R’s yet this season suggests that the management might be having second thoughts about their new recruit.

In four years with the Terriers he netted eight golas in 122 appearances and was highly thought of by the club’s supporters.

Lynch is prone to error in defence and his distribution of the ball from the back is relatively poor.

Conor Washington

The Northern Ireland striker was signed by the R’s during the January transfer window and is yet to score his first league goal.

The R’s parted with £3 million to secure his services from Peterborough United and the club would have expected a better return on such a hefty sum of money.

Washington netted 27 goals in 82 appearances for the Posh, having initially signed for them in 2014 from Newport County.

The 24-year-old is finding life in the Sky Bet Championship tough and a loan move back to League One at some stage this season would not really be a major surprise.
