The 2015/16 season was a campaign that saw Huddersfield finish just above the relegation places in the Championship in 19th position but it was a year that saw them achieve the consolidation in the division that they wanted.

Head coach David Wagner was brought in to the club at the start of November to steady a ship that appeared to be losing its direction under previous manager Chris Powell. The former Borussia Dortmund II manager picked up enough points to satisfy the board enough to let him keep his job at the club.

This season delivers different challenges with chairman Dean Hoyle keen on the club making progress up the Championship table and even though promotion or the play-offs might be too much to ask it is almost a requirement for them to target a top half finish.

Football League World writer Steve Day takes a look at which three Premier League players Wagner must look to sign to help improve the Terriers squad for the coming season.

Thierry Ambrose

At first glance, the striker position is not somewhere that Huddersfield are desperate for a player. Nahki Wells scored 17 goals in the Championship last season and that's not a bad return for a player in a team that battled against relegation. However, after Wells, the goals run dry.

Jamie Paterson scored 6 goals, Harry Bunn scored 6 goals, and Emyr Huws scored 5 goals. Paterson and Huws have now returned to their parent clubs and the experienced names of James Vaughan and Ishmael Miller have both departed the club.

The loan signing of Elias Kachunga from Bundesliga side Ingolstadt is a brave move but the Terriers still need another player to compete for a place up front.

Ambrose is one of the most highly-rated youngsters in the top flight. He is not going to see any first team football at the Etihad Stadium given their wealth of talent so bringing him in on loan would be a great move for both Ambrose and the Terriers.

Tiago Ilori

One area of concern for Wagner this coming season is the centre back position. Club captain Mark Hudson is another year older at 34 years of age and they are not blessed with an array of other centre backs who are labelled as some of the finest in the Championship.

Joel Lynch is being linked with a move away from the club and that leaves Martin Cranie as the only recognised and capable centre back.

Ilori is a 23-year-old centre back who is contracted with Premier League side Liverpool but has yet to make a first team league appearance for the club. He is at risk of his career passing him by. Loan moves to Granada, Bordeaux, and Aston Villa have not worked out for him but there is no doubting his ability.

A loan move from Liverpool or even a permanent deal on a cut price would help the former Portugal Under 21 defender get his career back on track. His youthful vigour would also work in balance with the knowing head of Hudson at the back.

Kenji Gorre

The surname of this Swansea winger will be familiar with Terriers fans. He is indeed the son of former Huddersfield midfielder Dean Gorre. This would not simply be a signing for the football romantics because Gorre Jr is carving himself a reputation on his own as a creative attacking midfielder.

The 21-year-old Dutchman spent last season on loan with Eredivisie side ADO Den Haag. He had a youth career that was spent at Manchester City and Manchester United before he transferred to Swansea so he has been brought up on an elite football philosophy.

Losing Paterson this summer was a huge blow but the permanent signing of Rajiv van La Parra has sorted the one wing so Gorre's addition would add competition to Sean Scannell and Karim Matmour in the wide positions.

What do you guys think of these three players? Could Wagner realistically sign these players? Who would you suggest? Let us know below!
