It's all a bit uncharacteristically mysteriously quiet at Coventry City right now. After Tony Mowbray ruthlessly released nine players the day after the season ended, he has yet to find replacements for those who departed.

Further to that Coventry have lost key players whose loan deals have expired - such as Adam Armstrong, Jack Stephens, James Maddison and Jacob Murphy.

This leaves the Sky Blues without much depth to the squad. Every position could do with a bit of bolstering. But Mowbray has to secure the right players to fit his style of play and  also be effective for Coventry's ambition of promotion. Recruitment needs to be wise with a limited budget.

The Premier League is an ideal market to search for players in because they have played at the top level. The standard of players should hopefully be high and Mowbray will assess whether they have the mettle to settle into third tier football.

Here are THREE players that Mowbray should look to sign for Coventry...

Zeki Fryers

Tony Mowbray has already made it clear that he wants to sign a "marauding" left back. Zeki Fryers fits this description perfectly.

The 23-year-old has found first team opportunities few and far between at Crystal Palace and has been loaned out multiple times. Perhaps it is time for the former England youth international to move on a permanent basis.

Fryers would have to compete with two very good left backs in Chris Stokes and Ryan Haynes, though.

Matthew Pennington

Matthew-Pennington

21-year-old Matthew Pennington had a successful loan spell with the Sky Blues in the latter part of the 2014/15 season. The centre half played 24 league matches for Coventry as they survived the drop to League Two with a final day victory over Crawley.

Since then he has had a loan stint at Walsall and played 4 Premier League games for Everton. But he is behind John Stones, Phil Jagielka and Ramiro Funes Mori in the pecking order at Everton with Koeman also keen to boost their centre back options.

Perhaps the former England under-19 international needs to move on to enhance his career and Coventry would welcome him back with open arms. Centre back is a position which needs strengthening due to the departures of Jack Stephens, Reda Johnson and Aaron Martin.

Eunan O'Kane

Eunan O'Kane

Eunan O'Kane might have to move away from Bournemouth this summer to get more first team action. The hardworking central midfielder is down the pecking order at Bournemouth with Eddie Howe looking to bring in Jeff Hendrick and Ryan Mason too.

This could spell the end of O'Kane's time with the Cherries, which includes over 100 appearances in his four seasons. The 25-year-old would slot straight into the Coventry starting midfield and could be an ideal replacement for John Fleck if the Scotsman moves on.

O'Kane needs to be playing regular first team football to gain a recall to the Republic of Ireland national side.
