Sky Bet Championship outfit Nottingham Forest announced the appointment of Frenchman Philippe Montanier as the club’s new head coach yesterday, ending a three-month wait for a new boss.

The former Rennes man has started work at the City Ground immediately and will no doubt be tasked with restoring some pride to the club’s long suffering supporters.

A 16th place finish last season was deemed as a disaster from the Forest faithful given that the club’s squad consists of some fine Championship quality players and Montanier will be relatively pleased with the squad he inherits.

Naturally he will want to stamp his own mark on the playing staff and the summer could be an exciting one for the Reds, who will embark on their first season under the stewardship of a foreign coach in 2016/17.

Football League World writer Lee Clarke takes a look at three Premier League players who must be signed by the new Forest head coach this summer.

Matty James

The Leicester City midfielder has fallen way down the pecking order at the King Power Stadium and he could be on borrowed time at the club.

James is a central midfielder who knows all about the Sky Bet Championship having collected a winner’s medal with the Foxes in 2013/14.

With Gary Gardner returning to Aston Villa following the end of his loan spell, Forest will be left somewhat short in the middle of the park and James would be a decent player to fill such a void.

James Wilson

The Manchester United striker will probably struggle for game time at the Red Devils next season, so a loan move back to the Championship would be ideal.

The 20-year-old was on loan with Brighton and Hove Albion during last season and netted five goals from his 24 games, although he was used as a substitute pretty frequently.

A bright future looks to be ahead of Wilson and he could act as the perfect striker partner for current Forest striker Britt Assombalonga.

The future looks pretty bleak for Wilson at Manchester United and an initial loan move could realistically be turned into a more permanent one should he impress sufficiently.

Jordon Ibe

The Liverpool winger has played Championship football previously during loan spells with Birmingham City and Derby County and his decline down the Liverpool pecking order could result in a loan move this summer.

Forest would be interested in a winger who can chip in with a few goals here and there and Ibe is someone who could offer just that to the Reds’ first-team.

The 20-year-old has a bright future ahead of him should he continue to develop but with his chances of first-team football for Liverpool next season looking bleak, a loan move to the City Ground is one he would probably consider.

Nottingham Forest fans, would you welcome these three players to the club? Which other Premier League players would you like to see sign for the club?
