In one of the more shocking results on the Championship calendar yesterday, Wolves pulled off a stunning 2-0 victory at St James' Park to come away with the spoils and put to bed their midweek horror show against Barnsley.

The game added further weight to just how unpredictable the Championship can be, but Walter Zenga will have been delighted with his side's display.

An own goal from Mbemba and a second added by Helder Costa around the hour mark ensured it was a happy trip to the North East for big spending Wolves.

For Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez, it was back to earth with a bump following their 6-0 thumping of QPR in midweek.

Wolves deserved the points though, and they will be looking to kick on now after what has been a frustratingly inconsistent start for the men in gold.

Here, FLW writer Lee Connor looks at the THREE key men for Wolves during yesterday's win...

Danny Batth

The big defender was instrumental in keeping the clean sheet for Wolves which proved so crucial in the end.

Batth showed his presence and dominance over the Newcastle front-line on more than one occasion, and it was a performance many have been waiting to see from the big defender.

If Batth can continue to show this form and organise the defence like he did yesterday, Wolves could go a long way.

Helder Costa

Scorer of the second and crucial winning goal, Costa was a thorn in the side for the Newcastle defence all day long.

The tricky winger made life ever so difficult for the Magpies defence, and he was given man of the match in many write ups across the country.

On this performance, Costa looks to be an excellent signing, and Wolves fans will be hoping to see plenty more of what they saw yesterday.

Romain Saiss

The debutant showed little nerves as he played a key role in front of the back four for Wolves, keeping the exciting Newcastle attacking line-up in check throughout.

Saiss was excellent as he broke up attack after attack, while he was not afraid to do the dirty work and close down, tackle, and upset the opposition.

If this debut is anything to go by, then Wolves have some player on their hands.
