It has been confirmed that David Jones has joined Sheffield Wednesday from Premier League side Burnley; the vastly experienced 31-year-old becomes Carlos Carvalhal's seventh signing of the summer.

This looks to be an extremely shrewd acquisition for Wednesday, Jones was an integral part of all of the Clarets' success last term - making 41 appearances in the clubs Sky Bet Championship campaign, scoring 1 goal and creating a further 7 as Sean Dyche's side secured promotion back to the top flight.

The goal for Carvalhal's side this season will undoubtedly be to go one step further from last season, when they lost the play-off final. However, if they are to achieve this objective they will need to match the sides around them, and that could mean making more signings.

Although their squad is certainly not in a bad position, it could be improved to make sure they are properly equipped to thrive over the gruelling Sky Bet Championship campaign.

In the opinion of Football League World writer Jack Sharp, these are THREE players that Carlos Carvalhal could look to bring in before the transfer window slams shut in just over a fortnights time.....

Tyler Blackett

With Daryll Lachman and Claude Dielna being given the all clear to leave Wednesday by Carlos Carvalhal this summer - they could certainly need some defensive reinforcements should the Dutch duo depart Hillsborough.

Manchester United talent Blackett could certainly be the player to provide that depth or strengthening - the 22-year-old has been given the all clear to leave the club he came through the academy at - as part of the overhaul at the club being orchestrated by new Portuguese boss Jose Mourinho.

If Carvalhal can secure the services of Blackett it could certainly be a shrewd acquisition.

James Wilson

Although Italian star Fernando Forestieri has tweeted a statement saying about how he wants to remain a Wednesday player, after speculation was rife regarding his immediate future - there is still some lingering doubt over the future of the former Watford ace.

With doubts in the air over the future of Forestieri - Carvalhal should look towards replacements for Forestieri should he leave; Manchester United star James Wilson could be the perfect candidate.

Wilson is likely to be allowed to leave United on loan - and the England U21 international possesses a decent pedigree in the Championship, scoring 5 goals in the 27 appearances he made during a loan spell at Brighton last term.

The clinical finisher could certainly be a great piece of business for the club.

Jeff Hendrick

Wednesday have been linked with making a double swoop on Nigel Pearson's Derby County - with Jeff Hendrick and Tom Ince catching the eye of Carvalhal; who reportedly wants to add to his attacking options.

I'm not saying Ince wouldn't be a great acquisition, I just think that Hendrick would be the more valuable player to the Wednesday squad.

Hendrick performed well for the Republic of Ireland in the recent European Championships and is vastly experienced in the Sky Bet Championship - making 196 appearances in the division.

SO... Wednesday fans, what do you make of the acquisition of Jones? Will the other players mentioned in the article improve your squad?
