It has been confirmed that David Jones has joined Sheffield Wednesday from Premier League side Burnley; the vastly experienced 31-year-old becomes Carlos Carvalhal’s seventh signing of the summer.
This looks to be an extremely shrewd acquisition for Wednesday, Jones was an integral part of all of the Clarets’ success last term – making 41 appearances in the clubs Sky Bet Championship campaign, scoring 1 goal and creating a further 7 as Sean Dyche’s side secured promotion back to the top flight.
The goal for Carvalhal’s side this season will undoubtedly be to go one step further from last season, when they lost the play-off final. However, if they are to achieve this objective they will need to match the sides around them, and that could mean making more signings.
Although their squad is certainly not in a bad position, it could be improved to make sure they are properly equipped to thrive over the gruelling Sky Bet Championship campaign.
In the opinion of Football League World writer Jack Sharp, these are THREE players that Carlos Carvalhal could look to bring in before the transfer window slams shut in just over a fortnights time…..
