One could be forgiven for thinking of Sheffield United as a typical Championship-level side, but they actually spent three years in the Premier League, across two stints.

The Blades spent the first two seasons of the Premier League competing, but were unfortunately relegated.

The relegation came in dramatic fashion on the last day, where five teams were involved in a scrap at the bottom – Blades were well in the clear at half time, but Chelsea turned it round and sent Sheffield United down.

They did return, briefly albeit, in 2006/07, but their time back in the Premier League was very much a fleeting passing, rather than a lengthy stay.

Despite this, Sheffield United fans will have many happy memories of times in the top division.

Here, we look at the top THREE of those.

Do you agree, or are their other memories you have that we’ve missed? Let us know in the comments below.

Sheffield United’s very first memory of the Premier League is potentially one of the best - in the very first game of the division as we know it, Blades defeated title favourites Manchester United at Bramall Lane.

Brian Deane scored the double on the day to cement his position as a Blades legend – he scored over 100 goals for the club.

Another fond memory Sheffield United fans will have over that season is the 6-0 home victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Bramall Lane.

It remains Blades’ best ever Premier League result and it played a big part in steering the club clear of the relegation zone.

Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal rocked up at Bramall Lane expecting to ease to victory, but it wasn’t to be, as Blades completed one of the upsets of the season, as Christian Nade netted the winner in a 1-0 win.

Paddy Kenny went off injured in the second half, with Phil Jagielka playing the last half an hour in goal.

The defender kept a clean sheet and earned a famous win for his side.
