Norwich City have experienced a fairly ordinary start to life back in the Sky Bet Championship and currently lie in 12th position in the league table after five matches.

Alex Neil’s side must adapt quickly to the second tier following last season’s relegation and a fairly average six goals indicates that there is some work to be done in the final third.

The total is all the more alarming given that the Canaries smashed four of the goals on the opening day against Blackburn, scoring just twice in four outings since then.

Norwich did look to bolster their attacking arsenal during the transfer window with Portuguese striker Nelson Oliveira adding some energy to their attack, following his switch from Benfica.

Neil will know that he is under pressure from the club’s hierarchy to get back among the promotion picture as the season progresses, with the next couple of months likely to be crucial to the Scotsman’s position as manager.

Football League World writer Lee Clarke takes a look at three members of the Norwich City squad who are overrated.

Matt Jarvis

Matt Jarvis

When the flying winger switched from Wolverhampton Wanderers to West Ham United in 2012 the move commanded a staggering £10.75 million, yet in four years with the club he mustered four goals in 78 games with a large portion of his appearances coming from the bench.

The Hammers naturally opted to offload the player and in 2015, Norwich parted with £3 million to secure his services – bizarre given his injury record.

Jarvis has featured just 14 times for the Canaries since the turn of the year and although he was clearly a talented player during five years with Wolves, the amount of time he spends out injured is clearly hampering his career.

Kyle Lafferty

Interest in Lafferty was apparently ripe during the transfer window with Cardiff City narrowly missing out on securing the services of the striker.

The 28-year-old scored frequently for Northern Ireland but his club career is in real danger of stagnating if he does not get regular game time soon.

Since arriving in East Anglia from Palermo in 2014 he has played just 19 times for the Canaries and scored one goal for the club.

A short loan move to Birmingham City didn’t do him any favours last season either with the striker notching just one goal in six outings for the Blues.

Steven Naismith

Naismith

The 29-year-old is a striker who, quite frankly, doesn’t score many goals.

His best seasons in front of goal have come when playing north of the border in a much poorer Scottish Premier League with Rangers and Kilmarnock.

Everton managed to get £8.5 million for Naismith back in January despite just 18 goals in 103 appearances during his time with the club, representing solid business to say the least.

Sunderland wanted to take Naismith to the Stadium of Light in the summer transfer window, which is remarkable considering a less than impressive record in the Premier League.
