Lincoln City are still fighting for a place in the League Two play off race, they're two points outside but have matches coming up against Exeter and Carlisle which will go some way to defining their season.

It's been a hugely successful first season back in the Football League after their six-year absence. Manager Danny Cowley and assistant Nicky Cowley have masterminded a promotion push as well as reaching the final of the Checkatrade Trophy, to be played in little under two weeks time.

They've done so on a relatively small squad, they've got just three forwards on their books, just three full backs and yet a host of wingers. Whilst the playing staff hasn't look balanced, they've continued to drive on and get results, losing the same amount of games as sides in the automatic promotions spots.

Turning draws into wins has been the one issue that has stopped them entering the top three and whilst the future is bright for the team, one or two of the playing squad will be looking ahead with a degree of trepidation. FLW have a look at three Lincoln City players who might just be walking a tightrope at Sincil Bank right now.

Stewart has football pedigree, there's little doubt about that. Having been schooled at Manchester United he later played for Ipswich and almost secured a big move to Leeds. A bad experience with the Elland Road outfit led to him having time out of the game, but he's back at Sincil Bank looking to resurrect his career.

Unfortunately, it hasn't happened that way and he'll be sweating over his future with the club. A couple of Checkatrade Trophy outings brought promising performances, but nothing that suggested he was any better than some of the players who represented the club in the National League. He's barely been seen over the last couple of months and he must be concerned about what the future holds.

Many Imps fans will raise an eyebrow over Knott's inclusion. The former Chelsea midfielder has all-but left the Bank, he's on loan at Rochdale having switched with Jordan Williams after the two sides met in the Checkatrade Trophy.

Knott once trained with Real Madrid and ended up on the books of Chelsea. A training ground incident led to him being bombed out of Stamford Bridge and despite a Premier League chance with Sunderland, he's slowly drifted down the divisions. His Sincil Bank deal ends in the summer and he's highly unlikely to get a new one, meaning Imps fans are unlikely to see him in the club colours again.

Walton came through the youth ranks at the club, but hasn't made an impression and looks highly unlikely to secure a new deal going forward.

He's been out on loan at Gainsborough Trinity this season, as well as Cleethorpes Town and despite the injury to first choice Josh Vickers, he wasn't given a spot on the bench. Danny Cowley brought in Ryan Allsop from Premier League Bournemouth, relegating popular Paul Farman to the dugout and leaving Walton in limbo. With Michael Antkowiak earning rave reviews in the youth set up, Walton's time at Sincil Bank looks set to end.
