After the appointment of new manager Garry Monk Leeds fans have every right to be feeling optimistic about the forthcoming campaign.

Promotion is the target and the Leeds United faithful are hopeful that Monk is the man to deliver Premier League football back to Elland Road.

Leeds have been out of the top flight since 2004 and feel their return is long overdue.

Monk has acted quickly already this transfer window to bring in Kemar Roofe from Oxford United in the hope his goals will help them push up the league.

This article takes a look at THREE players who will form the core of the team next season....

Sol Bamba

First comes club captain and Ivory Coast international centre back Sol Bamba.

Bamba has been at the club since since January 2015 where he initially signed on a loan deal until the end of the season with the view to a permanent transfer.

On 24 June 2015 Bamba completed a permanent transfer from Serie A side Palermo for an undisclosed fee.

Bamba has made 49 appearances for Leeds scoring 5 goals and has become a key figure at Elland Road.

Bamba is a commanding imposing figure who breeds confidence through the team with his composure, strength and defensive awareness.

It is clear that if Leeds are to achieve their goals this season then they will need the 6ft 3 centre back to be firing on all cylinders.

Alex Mowatt

Next comes Yorkshireman Alex Mowatt, at just the age of 21, Mowatt has already made 100+ appearances for the club he's been at since the age of 9.

Mowatt is rated very highly by all at Leeds and is considered to be one of the brightest talents to come through the club's academy in recent times.

He has scored 12 goals for the club since he burst onto the scene in the 2013-2013 campaign.

Mowatt has picked up many individual honours at the club, he was awarded the Leeds United young player of the year award in 2013-2014 and also picked up the Leeds United players' player of the season and the Leeds United player of the season award in the 2014/2015 season.

Mowatt's clear potential has been recognised at international level which has seen him win caps for both the under-19 and under-20 squads.

Mowatt has excellent dribbling skills, a deadly long shot and a keen eye for a pass and provides a real creative spark in the midfield for Leeds.

Kemar Roofe

Kemar Roofe excelled in an Oxford team which won promotion out of League two last season.

He appeared 48 times for Oxford scoring 26 goals throughout the campaign, this fantastic season led Leeds United to spend a sizeable amount of money to bring the hotshot to Elland Road.

Many will doubt whether he can make the step up to Championship level, although his potential is clear to see and under the leadership of Garry Monk he could well thrive in the Leeds United team in the forthcoming season.

He penned a four-year deal at Elland Road this summer and at just the age of 23, he can definitely be seen as having a big part to play in the future.

Roofe can play down either flank or through the middle, he has lighting pace and great strength, he possesses all the physical attributes to make adapting to life in the Championship easier for him.
