Leeds United are slowly going about their business in the transfer window, with a few good additions made already as well as the sale of Lewis Cook for a healthy fee.

Under Garry Monk things seem to be off to a positive start, with the owners backing him far and Monk himself seemingly bringing an air positivity to Elland Road.

Leeds last season ended up in a comfortable mid-table finish, but will have been disappointed not to have pushed further up the table and challenge the playoff places.

This, along with other things ultimately cost Steve Evans his job. However, there is an air of optimism around that this season can be a whole lot better.

To achieve success, Garry Monk will need his players to get some consistency to their game, including those who perhaps have a point to prove or didn't quite do what they should have done last season.

With this in mind, FLW writer Lee Connor takes a look at THREE Leeds United players who might surprise people next season...

Jordan Botaka

The striker was signed at the beginning of last season but things have not gone entirely to plan for the 23-year-old Congo international.

However this season he might well get his chance under Garry Monk, something he should revel in given the opportunity.

Leeds have signed Kemar Roofe and Marcus Antonsson to bolster their attacking options, but in Botaka they have a pacey frontman already in the squad, and he might well just spring a surprise or two next season if he is given the chance.

Kalvin Phillips

The 20-year-old has just been rewarded with a new three year contract and might well get his chance to shine under Garry Monk next season.

The midfielder has plenty of competition at Elland Road, but he might well just see the sale of Lewis Cook as an opportunity for him to nail down a place in the starting line-up.

Phillips is clearly a very talented young footballer and will be viewing this season as one where he can make his mark on the team in a big way under a new manager.

Alex Mowatt

The young midfielder drifted out of form last season due to injury and lack of form, but will be hoping to put that behind him and kick on next season.

A new manager might well give him a new lease of life, and he will be hoping to recapture his best form and cement a place in the starting line-up under Garry Monk.

Mowatt is a lovely footballer, capable of playing in numerous positions across the midfield. If he can work hard under Monk, he could well find himself back at the top of the tree when it comes to selection.
