Leeds United have embarked on their 2016/17 campaign with the usual inconsistency which has plagued them over the last few seasons.

New manager Garry Monk has brought in a host of new signings to Elland Road, and at times things have clicked, while at times things have looked very messy.

The Leeds squad is a decent mix of late, with players full of ability, workhorses, and foreign imports all trying to gel to push the squad towards the top end of the table.

The Leeds United fan base can be hard to please, and after years in the wilderness now, it is probably understandable given they were in a Champions League semi final as recent as 2001.

Since then, plenty of players have come and gone at Elland Road, some rated highly, some rated not so highly.

Here, FLW writer Lee Connor takes a look at THREE Leeds United players who are often considered to be overrated...

Chris Wood

A big striker who often divides opinion, Chris Wood is capable on his day of being absolutely dominant.

However, he does not show it often enough in the eyes of many fans, and it is this which means that within the confines of Elland Road, he is not quite as highly rated as what those outside the club seem to think.

This will be a big season for the New Zealand international. He has a lot to prove still, and it really could be make or break in terms of getting another crack at the Premier League for the big man.

Alex Mowatt

The Leeds youngster is a bag full of talent, of that there is little doubt, but he has so far failed to live up to early expectations, leading to some fans thinking he might well end up being a waste.

Mowatt has started this season in pretty decent form, but he divides opinion among some fans, while outside of Elland Road, he is looked upon as a top talent.

Like Chris Wood, you get the sense it is another big season for Mowatt, who will be looking to fulfil his potential this season under Garry Monk.

Marco Silvestri

The goalkeeper seems to be looked upon outside of Leeds as one of the best goalkeepers in the division, but those who see him on a regular basis are more aware of Silvestri and the clangers he can drop.

Although not a bad goalkeeper, Silvestri does have the odd error in his locker, and it is this sort of thing which means some Leeds fans get frustrated with him.

Rob Green is now at Leeds, and for now is keeping Silvestri out, which is maybe a sign towards the trust in Green ahead of Silvestri by the management team.

Leeds fans, what do you think? Do you agree? Who is overrated in your squad? Let us know in the comments!
