Leeds United’s development squad have continued their rich vein of form as they moved eight points clear at the top of their respective league.

Charlton Athletic were the victims on this occasion and were handed a 4-0 battering courtesy of the Whites’ U23 side last night.

Goals from Jordan Stevens, Kun Temenuzhkov, Pascal Struijk and Mateusz Bogusz gave Leeds an unassailable lead at Elland Road on Monday evening.

There was plenty of praise, once more, for the club’s academy with the future looking bright at Leeds with plenty of talent looking to break through in the first-team, and all seem ready to do so.

There will be several first-team players who are familiar with the exploits of their younger colleagues, with some even needing to look over their shoulder in case they are bypassed by the academy products.

With that said, here are THREE Leeds players will be looking over their shoulders following emphatic U23 win over Charlton this past Monday.

[snack_break title="Tyler Roberts"]

The Leeds attacker has had a stop-start season in the team under Marcelo Bielsa and could soon find himself out of the team more frequently if the form of Mateusz Bogusz is anything to go by.

The 17-year-old has impressed this term for the U23s and has five goals to his name in an attacking midfield position.

He offers pace, skill and inventiveness that Leeds fans will admire.

And being his age – there is plenty of time to improve, especially under a coach like Bielsa.

Roberts will need to up his game if he is to stay ahead of the young Pole.

[snack_break title="Jack Harrison"]

The Manchester City loanee has improved throughout the season, and more so now he has had a decent run in the side from the start.

But Jack Clarke returned from illness to play a role in the U23s’ win on Monday evening as he edges closer to a first-team return.

The 19-year-old has kept Harrison out the side when he has been fit.

And the temporary Leeds man could well be worried about his involvement in the team for the rest of the year with the talented youngster on the verge of returning.

[snack_break title="Gaetano Berardi"]

The Leeds defender has been blighted with injury this season and has not played since October.

While he has been recovering and rehabilitating, Hugo Diaz has stepped up for the development side.

Despite playing in a holding role for the U23s – somewhat similar to Kalvin Philips – he is a defender by trade.

The 22-year-old could well usurp the one-time Switzerland international in being a replacement for the long-term at Elland Road.

While one has progressed in their recovery, the other had improved on the pitch and could well be a regular member of the first team, with Berardi worried looking over his shoulder.
