The Tractor Boys kick off their 2016/17 Championship campaign against newly promoted Barnsley at Portman Road this Saturday, aiming to get their season off to a flying start.

Mick McCarthy’s men looked bright over the summer after only losing twice in their six pre-season friendlies and have expressed their intentions to finish in the top six for the forthcoming campaign.

Despite being offered minimal spending money, Ipswich has bolstered their squad over the summer – clinching Grant Ward, Paul Digby and Adam Webster.

However, with signings coming into the squad, it is likely that some of the players that did not feature regularly last year will be pushed further down the pecking order.

Players are never happy to be sat on the bench, and should take opportunity to find a team that will offer first team football.

With high expectations for the season, Mick McCarthy will find further ways to improve his squad before the transfer window closes Wednesday 31st August.

Football League World Writer, Ashley Williams identifies THREE Ipswich Town players that would benefit from joining another club…

Piotr Malarczyk

The former Poland under 21 international endured a frustrating time at Portman Road last season – competing just six times for the Tractor Boys. He was offloaded to League One side Southend United on loan for the latter stages of last season.

Malarczyk has previously been open to returning to Southend United this season – providing he can play more regularly.

A year in League One would certainly be beneficial to the defender as he looks unlikely to be in the first team plans of Mick McCarthy.

Kevin Bru

The Mauritian international was hampered with a serious injury last season that kept him out of the majority of Ipswich’s season.

Bru recently featured in Town’s friendly against Belgian second tier side Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, but whether he has done enough to play week-in-week-out at Portman Road remains questionable.

Bru would be better off at another club that can provide him with first team experience to re-ignite his career.

The Championship side could potentially command a relatively decent sum of money for the versatile player to spend on other players.

Cameron Stewart

Stewart was placed on the transfer list last year after falling out of Mick McCarthy’s plans. The winger did himself no favours last year after turning up for pre-season training severely unfit.

Despite impressing in some of Town’s friendlies this year, McCarthy may not take a chance on the winger.

McCarthy is a hard coach to impress, and he wants to see players put in 100% effort for his side that Stewart has been criticised for previously.
