Last season was another underwhelming season for all Leeds fans, as the massive club only managed a mid-table finish in the Sky Bet Championship.

Staggeringly, the 13th placed finish of last season was actually an improvement of the season before, which culminated in a dismal 15th placed finish.

To make matters worse, this window they have sold arguably their best performer from the last campaign, Football League Young Player of the Year Lewis Cook - who has joined Premier League club AFC Bournemouth on a four-year-deal.

However, things could be looking up at the club, with Garry Monk now in the hot seat at Elland Road.

Although Leeds haven't enjoyed the sparkling success of old in recent times, it is undeniable that some great players have graced Elland Road wearing white in the not do distant past past - and in this article Football League World writer Jack Sharp looks at 3 ex-Leeds players that if placed in the current Leeds squad, would undoubtedly improve the fortunes of the club.

Jonny Howson

Howson played for Leeds between the years of 2006 and 2012 - after progressing from the clubs youth academy.

The 28-year-old made 219 senior appearances for United, scoring 27 goals and making 22 assists before moving to Norwich in 2012.

Howson was an anchor for Leeds during his time at the club - and many if not all of the Elland Road faithful would welcome a Howson return to the club with pure jubilation.

Lewis Cook is a reasonably similar player to Howson, which shows that Leeds have a knack of producing quality central midfielders.

New manager Garry Monk is renowned for putting an impetus on youth players; which may suggest that the Leeds fans could be treated to watching another Howson or Cook in the not so distant future.

Ross McCormack

Ross McCormack is arguably one of the most out-and-out goalscorers in English football, and his presence is sorely missed at Elland Road.

McCormack plied his trade at the Yorkshire club between 2010 and 2014 - the talisman made 158 appearances and scored 58 goals during that time; which is a superb return.

The 29-year-old left Leeds in 2014, joining fellow Championship side Fulham. McCormack has a incredible pedigree in the second tier of English football, scoring 116 goals in 306 games in the league.

Leeds are in need of a clinical finisher like McCormack, as last season Leeds top goalscorer Chris Wood only managed 13 league goals - which compared to McCormack's 21 league goals last campaign, is a measly return.

Robert Snodgrass

Scottish International Snodgrass made 187 appearances United between 2008 and 2012; scoring 41 goals during this time, and setting up 40 for his teammates.

Snodgrass now plays his trade at Hull City, where he was instrumental to ensuring their promotion from the Sky Bet Championship last campaign.

The 28-year-old made 24  league appearances for the Tigers last season, mostly in the second half of the campaign - unable to play until after Christmas due to a knee injury.

Although he could be prone to injury, a player with the talent and Championship pedigree possessed by Snodgrass would surely be welcomed back at Elland Road.
