After coming all so close last season, Brighton are going to go into their 2016-17 campaign as one of the favourites for the league title.

They missed out on automatic promotion on the final day to Middlesbrough, a result that ultimately meant they lacked the confidence to beat a very good Sheffield Wednesday side over two legs in the play-offs.

They have also been rocked by departures of Inigo Calderon, Bobby Zamora and Gordon Greer, so Chris Hughton will surely want more reinforcements to beef up his squad before the next season gets underway with a trip to promotion rivals Derby on Saturday 6th August.

That game could set the tone of the whole season, as whether Brighton can go again is yet to be demonstrated.

Here, in the opinion of FLW's Ryan Evans, is THREE ex-Brighton players that would fit seamlessly into the current Brighton team.

Leonardo Ulloa

The man from Argentina spent 18 months at Brighton between January 2013 and June 2014, where he made 58 appearances and scored 26 goals.

It was an excellent spell that proved he is a talented player, and there was no surprise that Premier League Leicester City came calling.

19 goals in 73 appearances for them may not be of his usual high standards, but the 29-year old has had to rely on appearances mainly from the subs bench, thanks to the form of Jamie Vardy and Shinji Okazaki.

The centre-forward scored six in the Foxes' title winning season, and with James Wilson returning to Manchester United, Ulloa would fit perfectly into this side alongside Tomer Hemed.

If the striker decides he wants more playing time, it wouldn't be hard to imagine him returning to the Amex either, despite the presumable Premier League interest.

Will Buckley

Buckley was out of favour with both Dick Advocaat and Sam Allardyce last season, so spent it on loan at Leeds and Birmingham.

He made four appearances for the Peacocks before making ten at St Andrews, but only scored once for the both of them combined.

During his three year spell in Sussex he made 109 appearances, scoring 19 and claiming 16 assists.

He was a great asset for the side under Gus Poyet and Oscar Garcia, and although Anthony Knockaert and Jiri Skalak will likely be first choice wingers in the Brighton side, Buckley would add depth and something different to the Seagulls attack.

Ashley Barnes

Ashley Barnes

The 26-year old made 25 appearances during his time at Plymouth Argyle whilst the club were in the Championship, and had a loan spell at then League One Brighton.

He scored four goals in eight games, joining the club permanently that summer, eventually helping the Seagulls gain promotion to the second tier.

He stayed at the club until January 2014, before transferring to Burnley. In all, he made 169 appearances for Albion, scoring 53 and setting up 22.

Whilst at Turf Moor, he scored eight in his 66 games, but hasn't been given anywhere near as much game time as he would have liked; he made just one start and seven assists last season thanks to a terrible cruciate ligament injury.

There is no doubting Barnes's talent, so if Sean Dyche doesn't have him in his first team views, the player may feel like moving on to help him get game time.

A move back to Brighton wouldn't be unrealistic either, as he could be able to help them win promotion to the Premier League.
