Last season, Derby were amongst the promotion fight but once again failed to capture promotion back to the Premier League.

After a slow start, the Rams soon shot up the table and after a 2-0 home win over Fulham on Boxing Day, Derby topped the Sky Bet Championship. But similarly to the previous season, Derby went on a 9 game winless run which cost Paul Clement his job.

Following Clement's departure, academy head coach Darren Wassall took over until the end of the season and did manage to guide the Rams into the play-offs.

However they couldn't beat Hull in the play-off semi finals and are now preparing for another season in the second tier under new boss Nigel Pearson.

Derby have one of the bigger squads in the division, with seven recognised central midfielders in the first team. Last season, 12 new players arrived at the iPro but only a handful of players went the other way.

So far, Ryan Shotton, Raul Albentosa, Conor Sammon and Stephen Warnock have left Derby, and more could follow.

Football League World writer Rob Booth identifies THREE players who could be sold this summer.....

Alex Pearce

Alex Pearce joined Derby last summer on a free transfer from Reading.

His game time in the East Midlands was extremely limited, mainly due to the great form shown by Richard Keogh and Jason Shackell. Pearce didn't make a single league appearance for Derby last season, making just two appearances, 1 in each cup competition.

The lack of game time meant that the Irish defender joined Bristol City on loan in January, where he made 7 league appearances.

It's unlikely that Pearson will want to change the centre back pairing of Richard Keogh and Jason Shackell ahead of next season, so Alex Pearce could leave the iPro Stadium in search of first team football.

Darren Bent

Darren Bent arrived at Derby last summer on a permanent deal following his successful loan spell in the previous season, in which he scored 12 goals in 17 games.

Even though regular striker Chris Martin didn't have a very good season by his standards, he remained a regular name on the team sheet, limiting Bent's game time.

Despite his good goal scoring ability and experience at the highest level, Darren Bent made just 5 starts. He netted 3 times last season for the Rams, including the winner in the FA Cup third round at Hartlepool and a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw at home to Sheffield Wednesday.

Derby have been heavily linked with Bristol City striker Jonathan Kodjia so far this transfer window, and in addition to Chris Martin, that'll make Bent the third choice striker so he could be a player to leave Derby this summer.

Lee Grant

Lee Grant joined Derby from Burnley in 2013, and he was part of the side that reached the play-off final in 2014.

Grant was the first choice keeper in his first two seasons back at the iPro, but last season Grant was dropped to second choice following the arrival of Scott Carson.

It's doubtful that Grant will be Pearson's first choice goalkeeper next season, and youngsters Jonathan Mitchell and Kelle Roos are also breaking through and could compete to be in the first team next season. So Lee Grant could move on this summer.
