It was a miserable season for Wolves as the pressure stacked on Kenny Jackett, after failing to build on the success of the previous season.

They lost key players during the transfer window including Sako going to Premier League Crystal Palace, and they lost Nouha Dicko through injury.

They started the season badly with Benik Afobe top scoring with 10 goals around the Christmas period but after he was sold to Premier League Bournemouth the goals dried up.

Strikers drafted in to fill the void like Joe Mason and Adam Le Fondre failed badly, and Wolves ended up with the bulk of their goals coming from midfielders David Edwards and James Henry.

The loss of Stearman hurt their defence as well and their play-off challenge.

If they are to get back on track they need new blood up front with Le Fondre returning to his parent club leaving them with only Mason and Dicko returning from injury.

With a new takeover imminent, here are THREE Championship strikers who would be ideal for Wolves.......

Matt Smith

The 27-year-old English striker has been at Fulham since his 2014 move from Leeds, but is struggling for first team football.

He spent the 14/15 season helping Bristol City win promotion from League 1 and win the Johnstone's Paint Trophy with 7 goals in 14 games.

But this impressive form didn't help him break into the Fulham squad last season, playing 20 games mostly from the bench and managing 20 goals.

Understandably he couldn't break the partnership of fellow Fulham strikers Moussa Dembele and Ross McCormack, who managed 40 goals between them and kept them up.

Even though Dembele left for Celtic, Woodrow is expected to replace him and Smith needs to find a new club with Wolves an ideal destination for him.

Kyle Lafferty

The Northern Ireland striker is badly out of favour at Norwich.

He was in excellent form for his country scoring 6 goals in Euro 2016 qualifying, as Northern Ireland qualified and made the last 16 of the tournament with Lafferty in the final squad.

Despite this form, Norwich didn't turn to him when the goals had dried up with Bamford, Mbokani and Jerome all struggling.

He was loaned out to Championship side Birmingham last season but struggled to make an impact due to injury, but he is tall and good in the air and would be dangerous at this level.

Libor Kozak

The Aston Villa striker has been plagued by injury ever since arriving from Italian side Lazio, and in the last 3 seasons has only played 18 games.

He has been a big part of the development squad but a player of his quality needs first team football at a good level.

Rudy Gestede is proven at this level and will probably lead the line with them also having Jordan Ayew and Scott Sinclair as options, but the former will probably leave.

He's a lethal finisher and the Czech Republic international needs to get his career back on track.
