Newcastle are set to embark on a season in the Championship once more after many thought we wouldn't see them back in the second tier of English football for a long time following their promotion back to the Premier League under Chris Hughton.

However, it is what it is, and they have already pulled off a couple of masterstroke moves by convincing Rafa Benitez to stay on as manager, as well as bringing in Dwight Gayle and Matt Ritchie off the back of the sale of Andros Townsend.

One thing the Magpies will need to get out of the Championship though is goals. With question marks over Ayoze Perez and Aleksandar Mitrovic, Benitez may well want to bring in some more fire power of this own.

Young Adam Armstrong will be chomping at the bit for a chance given his successful loan move to Coventry last term, but he may have to bide his time.

With this in mind, FLW writer Lee Connor identifies THREE Championship strikes who would be ideal for Newcastle United...

Britt Assombalonga

The big powerful Nottingham Forest striker was cruelly ruled out of most of last season, only returning towards the very end following a serious injury.

The former Peterborough man was a big money buy for Forest, and looked every bit worth it until the injury struck.

However, now he is back in the fold, Newcastle might well want to test the resolve of Forest and lodge a cheeky bid. It would take some serious cash for the Reds to part ways with their star striker, but if any club in the league is going to stump up the cash, it's Newcastle.

Fernando Forestieri

Another one who would be at the more unlikely end of the spectrum, but anything is possible in football, and Newcastle might well adopt the tactic of buying the best from around you.

Forestieri is certainly that, and he would offer something completely different to what they already have. The Owls player of the year last term plundered in the goals and assists, and nearly fired Wednesday to the Premier League.

The diminutive Italian is one of the best players in the Championship, and would complement the Magpies eleven perfectly.

Will Grigg

will grigg

If Newcastle want a finisher, someone who is just going to play in the 18 yard box and stick the ball in the net, they could do a lot worse than Will Grigg.

Taking away from the now famous chant which has reverberated around France at the Euro's this summer, Grigg is actually an excellent striker with a real keen eye for goal.

Grigg has that natural ability so often talked about which cannot be taught. He is an option for Benitez, and although Wigan will not want to lose him, they would be powerless if Newcastle flexed their financial muscles once more.

Newcastle fans, what do you think? Would you take these three? Let us know!
