This could prove to be a defining season in the history of Fulham as they are now in a position where the right transfers might turn them into promotion contenders in the Championship, but the wrong transfers could see them experience another campaign of battling relegation into League One.

Head coach Slavisa Jokanovic is already fighting against the tide with highly-rated youngster Moussa Dembele leaving the club on a free transfer to join Scottish Premier League champions Celtic and rumours circulating that rival Championship side Sheffield Wednesday are preparing a bid in excess of £11 million for top scorer Ross McCormack.

Needless to say, this means Jokanovic will need to prioritise a striker signing if he is to stand any chance of re-creating the promotion magic he experienced with Watford when he guided them to promotion into the Premier League two seasons ago.

Here, Football League World writer Steve Day singles out THREE strikers in the Championship that Jokanovic and the Cottagers should target over the summer transfer window...

Nick Blackman

Blackman is a player who struggles to find his best role on a football pitch but undoubtedly carried this raw ability that meant teams kept showing faith and patience in him.

His form at Motherwell during a loan spell, where he scored 10 goals in 18 games, attracted the attention of Sheffield United. He moved to the League One club in 2012 and was an instant hit scoring 11 goals in 28 matches. This saw him sign for Premier League side Reading in the 2012/13 January transfer window.

He struggled to score in his first two seasons but then started hitting the net in his third full season at the Madejski Stadium scoring 11 goals in 25 matches. This led to former Derby head coach Paul Clement spending £3 million to bring Blackman to Pride Park in January 2016 but just days later Clement was sacked.

His replacement Darren Wassall has shown very little faith in Blackman with the 26-year-old only making two appearances since. It is all but confirmed that the Rams will be interested in moving the striker on.

His goal record is patchy but under the right manager he could thrive. Jokanovic got the best out of Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo at Watford during their promotion so he could be the man to get the most from Blackman.

Atdhe Nuhiu

Atdhe Nuhiu

The 6 foot 6 inch target man has been a cult figure at Sheffield Wednesday ever since he joined the Yorkshire club back in 2013. He has never been the most prolific scorer but is considered to be more of an Andy Carroll-style battering ram than the conventional clinical finisher. He has still scored 19 goals in 121 appearances for the club.

Nuhiu was a regular first team player for the Owls last season but in an effort to take the club to the next step it could be the Kosovo striker that exits the club with Carlos Carvalhal keen to add more depth in the striker department in the goals category.

Fulham are currently a side short on physical attacking options and it is an aspect of their team that they have not really had since the departure of Bobby Zamora back in 2012.

Nuhiu might not be the most potent finisher in the Football League but he would be another option for Jokanovic in those tight games where playing ugly will be needed to get the points.

Adam Le Fondre

It has been a frustrating past few seasons for Le Fondre who was once labelled as one of the most natural finishers in the Football League. The 29-year-old started his career with his hometown club Stockport where he scored 18 goals in 63 appearances. He spent time on loan with Rochdale scoring 4 goals in 7 games before making the switch permanent where he went on to score 34 goals for the club in 96 matches.

This form saw Rotherham come in for him. At the Millers he improved his reputation even more by scoring 54 goals in 96 matches. Interest came from Reading where Le Fondre bagged 39 goals in 104 games. He earned himself a reputation for being a super sub with a large amount of his goals with the Royals coming off the bench.

However, his career went off the rocks when he signed for Cardiff City in 2014. He only managed 3 goals in 23 appearances for the Bluebirds and loan spells at Bolton and Wolves failed to deliver a permanent transfer away from the Cardiff City Stadium.

The striker is now keen to find a new club and Cardiff are likely to want to be rid of the player for a cheap fee simply to get him off the wage bill. If played correctly, he could prove to be a bargain and the difference between fighting for promotion and trying to avoid relegation.
