It turned out to be a disappointing season for Coventry last year, with hopes of promotion not achieved...

The club started the season in blistering form, winning 11 of their first 20 games, only three of which they lost, and at Christmas looked like a strong bet for promotion back to the Championship.

However it wasn't to be, and despite the inspirational form of Adam Armstrong up front, they failed to finish above eighth, after a terrible run of form during the second half of the season, losing 11 of their games in 2016.

They'll be rebuilding for another go at it next season, and will be hoping to add more goals to the side as Adam Armstrong returns to Newcastle, and in all likelihood, will be in the first team picture for the Mags next year.

Here are three strikers who they could turn to to get the goals in League One next year...

Kieran Agard

To say this would be an ambitious deal for Coventry would be an understatement, as Coventry aren't really renowned for spending big bucks on players, and a loan deal could look more likely.

There's no doubting that Kieran Agard would be a quality addition for any League One side, shown in his 21 goal scoring season with Rotherham in 2013/14, before moving to Bristol City.

After helping them to promotion, Agard is now on the fringes of the Championship outfit, and could be looking for a move away over the summer in a bid for more first team football.

Chris O'Grady

You could be forgiven for forgetting that Chris O'Grady is a Brighton player after their success last season, where he spent the year on loan at Nottingham Forest, with little success.

He's struggled to find a regular scoring rhythm since leaving Barnsley in 2014, after a season of scoring 15 Championship goals.

The 30-year-old is certainly listed to leave Brighton this summer, who tried to force him out last year, and perhaps a move to League One with Coventry would be more suitable in order to gain some confidence. You'd imagine the Seagulls would want very little for him in the way of a fee.

Caolan Lavery

Caolan Lavery

Lavery is a player that Coventry are actually eyeing up, if reports are to be believed, after the Sheffield Wednesday striker had a short but fruitful spell in League Two with Portsmouth last season.

It's unclear whether the 24-year-old is staying with the Owls or not, having been offered a contract, but with little indication that he's signed it or is planning to.

However, if he were to snub Wednesday and take a plunge into League One, Coventry would still owe Wednesday a small fee due to Lavery being under/at the age of 24.
