Last season, Burton Albion took League One by storm securing promotion to the Championship, a league they have never been in before in the club's history.

Nigel Clough now faces an incredibly difficult task in keeping his Burton side in the second tier.

Earlier this week, star man Lukas Akins signed a new contract, but Burton will need more than one goal scorer to ensure survival. They have a small squad and their transfer budget isn't too good, but Nigel Clough has experience in the Championship, he was the man who brought the likes of Craig Bryson, Chris Martin and Johnny Russell to Derby for fairly small fees.

This season's Championship looks as if it could be the most competitive one yet, with a whole host of clubs looking like they can challenge for promotion.

Football League World writer Rob Booth identifies THREE Championship strikers who would be ideal for Burton Albion...

Mason Bennett

Mason BennettMason Bennett

Mason Bennett had a loan spell at Burton last season, helping them win promotion.

Nigel Clough is clearly a fan of the youngster, as well as bringing him in on loan to the Pirelli Stadium earlier this year, he was the man who gave him a chance in the Derby first team when he was just 16 years old.

Bennett hasn't had much of a first team opportunity at Derby, so a move to Burton could enhance his career.

Jermaine Beckford

Jermaine Beckford missed the majority of last season due to injury.

Beckford is a great goal scorer at Championship level, having played for many clubs including Leeds, Leicester and Bolton.

Although the arrival of strikers Eoin Doyle and Simon Makienok at Deepdale may restrict Beckford's game time, meaning a transfer away from Preston could happen.

Adam Armstrong

Adam Armstrong spent last season on loan at Coventry from Newcastle.

The striker scored 20 League One goals in 40 appearances for Coventry as they pushed for promotion early on in the season.

Dwight Gayle looks to be joining Newcastle, which could mean Armstrong must seek a loan opportunity to get game time next year, and he'd be an ideal signing for Burton.
