After being the surprise package of the Championship season last year, many will be looking to Brighton & Hove Albion as potential champions for this campaign.

They missed out on the final day to Middlesbrough to go up automatically, before a poor performance in the play-off semi-final first leg left them just too much to do in the return game at the Amex.

Their form in the run-in was unbelievable, unbeaten since mid-February with nine wins in that time. They have one of the best attacking line-ups in the league, led by Anthony Knockaert and Tomer Hemed, and scored the joint-highest amount of goals in the league.

That may need a bit of refinement in the season to come, and with all the attacking talent that is around the second tier, they may not have to look too far from home in order to add that.

So here, in the opinion of FootballLeagueWorld writer Ryan Evans, is THREE Championship strikers that would be ideal for Brighton:

Gary Hooper

The Sheffield Wednesday striker reinvigorated his career in the season just gone, scoring 13 and setting up five in his 32 games to form a formidable partnership with Fernando Forestieri that took them all the way to the play-off final.

Whilst they couldn't influence that game, he scored twice and set up two in his last two games of the regular season and first of the play-offs.

Hooper has, on the whole, a highly impressive goal scoring, scoring 43 in 80 at Scunthorpe, 63 in 95 for Celtic before his current goal scoring output at Wednesday.

The only foreseeable problem will be that the former Celtic man and Hemed are very similar, so whether Chris Hughton will want to or can get them in the same team is unlikely.

Plus, the Owls are likely to rely on their pair of strikers again in the upcoming season, so quite whether Carlos Carvalhal will want to let any one of Hooper or Forestieri go is again unlikely.

Kyle Lafferty

Lafferty earned plaudits for his form during Northern Ireland's sensational Euro 2016 qualifying campaign, and whilst he was disappointing during the tournament proper, many are still baffled how he couldn't get a game at Norwich.

The 28-year is ex-Burnley, scoring ten goals for the club during a three year spell there, before his move to Rangers. Lafferty scored 38 in 138 for the Ibrox club, and spells at Sion, Palermo and Norwich followed.

He's spent a short spell of this season at fellow Championship side Birmingham, scoring against the Seagulls. There are questions over his scoring ability, but Chris Hughton may think of this as a challenge that he'd want to take. If they can get the best out of him, Brighton could be playing Premier League football in 2017-18.

Ross McCormack

In terms of the title, Ross McCormack would probably be 'ideal' certainly for any Championship team, and for most top flight sides too.

He was involved in 30 goals for Fulham this season, who, despite their lowly league finish of just 20th spot, had one of the best attacking line ups in the league. The 29-year old has a good record as well, 17 in his debut campaign at Craven Cottage, and 28 for Leeds the year before as he was named top scorer.

He has 13 Scottish caps to his name, and could well fit perfectly into Brighton's team. They have a lot of pace, and are able to hit teams on the break. McCormack's style of play could fit this well, and his natural goalscoring ability is something that could fire Brighton to the title.
