The 2016/17 Championship season is set to be a pivotal one for Bristol City, as the club looks to build on it's 16th place finish last season.

Manager Lee Johnson helped to guide the team away from the relegation zone after replacing Steve Cotterill, and he will now be keen to push on from that mid-table position and turn the Robins into a promotion-chasing side.

A complete evaluation of the squad is expected this summer with Johnson set to bring in some of his own preferred signings with a number of players leaving the club.

Seven players have already joined the club including Gary O'Neil from Norwich City, Lee Tomlin from Bournemouth, and Diego De Girolamo from Sheffield United.

Football League World writer Steve Day takes a look at which players still at Bristol City are likely set to leave Ashton Gate this summer to make room for further arrivals.

Jonathan Kodjia

Jonathan KodjiaJonathan Kodjia

The first name on this list will almost certainly cause controversy amongst the Bristol City fan base, with the French-born Ivory Coast international having already been linked with a move to Championship title favourites Aston Villa and fellow divisional rivals Derby County.

Kodjia had a stunning debut season in English football last year scoring 19 league goals to see him finish as the club's top scorer.

It was a fantastic return for the Robins on a player that cost them just £2 million last summer from French Ligue 1 club Angers.

The 26-year-old has carved a reputation for himself very quickly in this division and he is now seen as hot property, by teams that feel he could be their 20 goal-a-season striker to take them to the promised land of the Premier League.

It will take something special for Johnson to resist some of the bids that are expected to come in for him this summer.

Aden Flint

This will be another big name for the Robins that their fans hope will not depart the club this summer.

The good news is that the towering centre back Flint still has three years left to run on his contract at Ashton Gate.

Unfortunately, the bad news is that not only is Rafa Benitez keen on bringing the player to Newcastle United, but rumours are circulating that Johnson is already searching for Flint's replacement.

The club have signed Icelandic centre back Hordur Magnusson.

Magnusson is being touted as the replacement for Flint as Johnson potentially prepares to lose his influential defender.

Kieran Agard

Agard has long been a player that divides opinion amongst the Bristol City supporters.

He is praised for his relentless nature on the pitch but often receives criticism for his lack of clinical finishing in the final third.

This has led to some fans suggesting he needs a run of games in the first team, but others proposing he is moved on to create space for a more potent striker.

The imminent departure of Kodjia could be Agard's lifeline but not only are there question marks over his ability to score goals at Championship level, but he also spent a portion of last season injured so there are also questions remaining over his fitness.

It looks likely that the evergreen Aaron Wilbraham will be kept on after an impressive season in 2015/16, so unless Johnson is happy to lose Kodjia and not replace him it seems the next in line out of the exit door could be the enigma that is Agard.
