Brighton have made a positive start to the new Championship season – sitting in 8th place and picking up 8 points in their opening five league fixtures.

The Seagulls will be hungry to prove that they can achieve promotion after just missing out on a Premier League spot to Middlesbrough on the final day of last season.

They certainly have a squad capable of going over the final hurdle, and the acquisitions of Glenn Murray, Steve Sidwell and Shane Duffy certainly bolsters the spine of the team.

Brighton boss, Chris Hughton has acquired a large squad to cope with the competitive nature of the Championship and in a side that is packed of talent, he will be expecting 100% from every member.

There are certainly some players in the squad who have shown glimpses of their quality, but haven’t quite exceeded expectations for the supporters as of yet.

Football League World Writer, Ashley Williams identifies THREE Brighton players who are overrated.

Sam Baldock

Baldock managed four goals in each of the two seasons since his move from Bristol City to Brighton for around £1 million.

The 27-year-old and the South Coast supporters will be eager to see an improvement on those figures this year.

He has got off the mark for this campaign by opening the scoring in Albion's 4-0 EFL Cup win over Colchester.

Hughton will be keeping an eye on Baldock’s performances as his goal scoring record for Brighton is certainly not good enough.

Connor Goldson

A player who has been hit with several injuries is poised to make his return imminently since the play off final in May.

Kazenga Lua Lua

We all know that Lua Lua has shown glimpses of what a real great player he can be at Brighton in recent years, and after a frustrating spell of injuries last year, the fans will be hoping to see him excel in the current campaign.

LuaLua has yet to start in the league and Hughton has opted to keep him at the club amid of a potential loan move to QPR.

His chances of action at home to Brentford on Saturday could be helped by subdued showings on the left by Jiri Skalak of late.
