Blackburn Rovers finished in 15th place last season, on 55 points.
The 13 wins, 16 draws and 17 defeats left them with one of the worse attacking records in the division, but, at the same time, one of the best defensive records outside the top six.
Their campaign was disrupted by the departure of Rudy Gestede, the club’s top scorer in all competitions in 2014-15, before the season even started and that of Jordan Rhodes, the club’s top scorer in the league that season, in January 2016.
They never recovered from that to make it into the top twelve, but did find some tremendous defensive performances from Grant Hanley and Shane Duffy.
However it is widely reported in the media that the duo will leave, with some of the division’s top clubs interested in one or the other.
It’s easy to make a case that Blackburn should not sell any more of their players, such is the lack of depth that they currently possess, but there are some serious quality issues at the depths of this squad.
