It was on the whole a disappointing season at Ewood Park, with Blackburn finishing in 15th place.

Comparative to their position, their defence is almost top six standard, but the attacking department is the concern for new boss Owen Coyle. The club scored just 46 goals last season, and every team other than those in the bottom three, Preston North End and Nottingham Forest scored more than them.

It is obvious what area needs addressing, but it is also obvious what their strength is, with their defensive guard proving to keep them in games when they needed it.

Coyle's men open up at home to relegated Norwich, tipped by many to go straight back up next season, before going to Mansfield in the cup, newly-promoted Wigan and last season's seventh best team Cardiff. It is a tough start, so they will need the following 'star players' to make themselves known.

According to the bookmakers, Rovers are the fourth most likely team to be relegated next season, only Burton, Rotherham and Barnsley are given shorter odds by Sky Bet.

Here, in the opinion of FLW's Ryan Evans, are THREE Blackburn players that will dictate the club's 2016-17 season...

Shane Duffy

Last seasons player of the campaign, Duffy impressed with both Blackburn all season and the Republic of Ireland, putting in an amazing performance against Italy as his country progressed from their group as one of the best third placed teams.

He scored four and set up two as a part of his 41 appearances in the Championship last season, and looks like he may well become a top flight player.

The Everton youngster joined Rovers in 2014, and has international experience for both the Northern Ireland B-side, as well as the Republic's full team.

Corry Evans

Another Euro 216 star, Corry Evans was instrumental for Northern Ireland in their win over Ukraine and also had decent games against Germany and Wales.

An industrious player who anchored the midfield excellently all season, Evans also has a Championship goal to his name from his 30 appearances.

After starting his career at Manchester United, he had a spell at Hull City before moving to Ewood Park, and will be looking to boost Blackburn's position further up the table this season.

Anthony Stokes

Owen Coyle hasn't wasted any time since arriving in Lancashire, signing Liam Feeney, Danny Graham and Anthony Stokes.

The latter signed from Celtic on a free transfer, after scoring 77 goals in 192 games for the Scottish giants. The 27-year old has also helped them to four titles and two Scottish Cups, and added another cup to his personal tally whilst on loan at Hibernian last season, scoring twice in the final to beat Rangers.

After falling out of favour under Ronny Deila, he has ten goals in 25 appearances at Hibs, and looks like he could be an excellent signing for Blackburn.
