To say it was a bad season for Aston Villa last campaign, is a huge understatement.

Since the club reformed in 1993, Villa were yet to be relegated to the second tier of English football, despite coming agonisingly close to the drop in the 2014/15 campaign, however endured their most dismal campaign last term.

However things seem to be looking up at Villa Park, the appointment of new boss Roberto Di Matteo, a former Champions League winner, has livened up the spirits of Villa fans, as they look to romp to promotion this year.

Some players will be looking to impress the new manager after a terrible campaign for themselves last time around, several performances last term left the Villa Park faithful embarrassed and quite frankly humiliated.

Here, Football League World writer George Harbey identifies THREE players that are on their last chance for the Villains, and need to change their ways in order to take Villa back to the top....

Adama Traoré

Adama TraoreAdama Traore0000

Great things were expected of the former Barcelona youngster at the Spanish club, but the 19-year-old failed to make the grade in Catalonia.

And this was the same for when the winger arrived at Villa Park last year.

Blessed with pace, trickery and strength, the electrifying winger was a bright spark for some of the Villains’ campaign last term, before sustaining an injury that saw fall heavily down Garde’s pecking order.

As was the pattern of Aston Villa's 2015/16 season, many lacklustre performances led to relegation to the Championship.

This time around, di Matteo will be looking to use Adama’s power down the flanks to full ability, reminiscent to the likes of Bakary Sako, and Thomas Ince, who both have had success at this level, and both playing the same way as the 20 year old.

Villa fans will be looking to see more of Traoré's ability this year, after failing to make the impact that he would have liked to last time around.

Rudy Gestede

Gestede

When the man who scored 20 goals in 39 games for Blackburn Rovers in the previous season signed for Villa last September, big things were expected of the big man when he arrived at Villa Park

However, scoring five goals in 24 appearances last campaign in what was a gruelling, treacherous one for Villa fans, Gestede was subject to barrages of abuse from supporters.

There is no doubt though, that Gestede has a fantastic goal scoring ability in the Championship, netting 32 goals in his two year stint at Ewood Park.

The 6 foot 4 man has an overwhelming presence in the box, and it seems inevitable that whenever the ball gets put into the 18 yard box, it will be a headed goal.

Gestede will be looking to replicate his fine goal scoring form in the Championship this time around, but more than anything else, restore some pride in the Villa fans' hearts.

Gabby Agbonlahor

Gabriel AgbonlahorGabriel Agbonlahor

After making 322 appearances for Villa, one would imagine that Agbonlahor would show the most pride and desire amongst the Villa players.

11 years at the club, the 29-year old finds himself approaching the forthcoming season having only found the net once in the dire 2015/16 campaign.

And with the striker not seeming to show any care or hurt about the club's relegation, it will be very hard to see Agbonlahor find himself back in Villa fans' hearts.

It will be very interesting to see how the 29-year old's season pans out in the Championship this term.

So...What do you think Villa fans? Do these players deserve another chance at Villa Park? Will they do well this season? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
