Sheffield Wednesday currently have a strike force which is feared throughout the Championship, despite their relatively slow goal-scoring start to the season.

In Gary Hooper, Fernando Forestieri, and Steven Fletcher, the Owls have three of the top front players in the league, while Lucas Joao offers a viable option off the bench, and Adthe Nuhui offers presence and often game changing influence.

However, things have not always been so rosy up top for the blue and white half of Sheffield, and the Owls fans have had to endure some quite terrible strikers represent their club in the last decade.

Spells spent in League One and the lower end of the Championship have not helped, and Owls fans should be grateful nowadays that they have such options.

Here though, FLW writer Lee Connor takes a look at THREE of the worst Sheffield Wednesday strikers in the last 10 years...

Francis Jeffers

Sheffield Wednesday v AFC Bournemouth - Sky Bet Football League Championship

The former Arsenal and Everton man has to go down as one of the biggest failures in the English game when you look at what was expected of him and what he delivered.

Once an £8m signing for Arsene Wenger, Jeffers failed to do anything of note at Hillsborough, often looking short of fitness, slow, and seemingly short on confidence.

A three year spell in Sheffield ended with only a handful of goals in over 50 appearances, and he will be remembered for very little other than been a very poor striker for the Owls.

Jay Bothroyd

Impossible to do this and not include the former England one cap wonder, as Sheffield Wednesday fans in the main absolutely hated him.

Bothroyd had a loan spell with the club in 2012, joining on loan from QPR. His signing was met with raised eyebrows, but many fans were convinced he would come good for the club.

However, they would be wrong. Bothroyd did nothing in his spell at Hillsborough, with only one goal to his name and a distinct lack of effort on the field during his performances. Bothroyd was soundly packed back off after only 5 months with the club, and Owls fans will more or less 100% unite in their disdain towards the striker.

Nathan Modest

Nottingham Forest v Rotherham United - Sky Bet Football League Championship

Who? Plenty of people will ask this question, but to die hard Owls fans, they will no doubt remember Modest.

Coming through the youth system at Hillsborough, Modest was meant to come on and be one of the finest young talents they had produced over the years. However, things would not turn out so well for Modest, and less than five appearances later, his career for the Owls would be over.

A career spent switching between different non-league clubs showed just the level Modest was actually at, and he will go down in the memory as a bit of a nobody for the Owls.

Owls fans, what do you think? Who would you include? Let us know in the comments!
