Sheffield Wednesday are now a club well on the up, following their takeover and injection of funds over the last couple of seasons.

They lost out in last years play off final, but will no doubt come again and have spent quite heavily in the summer, with big money signings like Adam Reach and Almen Abdi joining the Owls.

However, over the last decade, the Owls fans have had to put up some utter rubbish in terms of playing staff, with many players who donned the blue and white being very lucky to have the privilege of playing for such a club.

The standard of player has now improved though, so looking back over the years makes even stranger reading when you come across some of the names who have worn the Owls shirt.

Here, FLW writer Lee Connor looks at THREE of the worst Sheffield Wednesday midfielders of the last 10 years...

James O'Connor

The central midfielder, known more for just bundling about the pitch and offering very little in terms of ability is not someone who many Owls fans look back on fondly.

O'Connor was never a player of superb footballing ability, but his all round displays were not that great either given his good workrate.

O'Connor made over 100 appearances for the Owls before moving on to America. Looking at the standard the club has in the middle of the park nowadays, it is easy to see why James O'Connor is considered a poor player.

Nejc Pecnik

The Slovenian international arrived at Hillsborough with quite a high expectation of being able to become a star for the Owls, however, it just did not work out.

Only a handful of appearances - and poor appearances at that - followed, and Pecnik would soon be moved on from the club.

Pecnik's most memorable moment was missing a penalty in an Owls defeat, and he was subsequently released at the end of his only season with the club.

A bad player all around for Wednesday, Pecnik is not missed at all.

Darren Potter

Some fans actually used to quite rate Darren Potter when he was at Hillsborough, but it cannot be argued that when you actually look at him, he was a poor player for the club.

Often just spending his time passing the ball side to side and having little influence on the game, Potter spent three seasons with the club before being moved onto the MK Dons.

Potter did manage to become a stalwart for the Dons during his time there, impressing enough in League One for the club, however his time with the Owls can be remembered for very little indeed.

A goal against local rivals Sheffield United might be his only saving grace, but he still makes this list as one of the Owls worst of the last 10 years.

Wednesday fans, what do you think? Who would you include? Let us know in the comments!
