The last ten seasons at Aston Villa have been an unpredictable mixture of spirit-raising ups contrasted with catastrophic lows.

Martin O'Neill took Villa to Wembley twice, had them competing in Europe and on the verge of qualification for the Champions League.

This all ended in heartbreak for the Midlands outfit, though, as they fall agonisingly short of each goal.

Things have progressively worsened since the Irishman's departure in 2010 and - despite reaching the FA Cup final in 2015 - Aston Villa suffered relegation from the top flight for the first time in the Premier League era.

They haven't exactly made a convincing start to life in the second tier, either, and have been forced to sack manager Roberto di Matteo just eleven games into the season after only managing one win in that time.

Aston Villa have seen many dire players come in and out of their club in the past ten years but here are the worst THREE strikers to have graced Villa Park in this era...

Nicklas Helenius

Things never worked out for Nicklas Helenius at Aston Villa. He scored once in two years for the Birmingham-based club and that was in an FA Cup defeat to Sheffield United. The Denmark international never lived up to his reported £1.2m price tag and eventually left Villa in 2015 on a free transfer after a spell blighted by injuries and a serious bacterial infection which threatened his life. He is now on loan at Danish side Silkeborg IF from Aalborg BK.

Grant Holt

Signing Grant Holt on loan seemed like an odd decision at the time and it proved to be unsuccessful for Aston Villa.

After completing his loan move from League One Wigan, Aston Villa fans questioned the move and they were never proven wrong.

The former Norwich target man was a shadow of his former self and managed just the solitary goal in a 2-1 loss to Fulham during his six-month spell at B6.

Luke Moore

Luke and Stefan Moore were a pair of prodigy brothers who looked destined for the top during their early years.

Stefan just escapes this list by one year as Villa axed him in 2005 so his brother instead takes his place.

The local boy was an England under-21 sensation and a goalscoring machine. He even netted a Premier League hat-trick against Middlesbrough (although that was more than ten years ago too). Between 2006 and 2008, Luke Moore was hopeless for Aston Villa in that period and only found the net five times in these two seasons amid injuries and a loss of form.

He was eventually shipped out to West Brom permanently and is now a free agent after spells with Swansea, Elazigspor, Chivas USA and Toronto FC.
