Leeds United are club with a rich history when it comes to the transfer market, despite the sums being paid by the club nowadays coming nowhere near those they might have paid in days gone by.

Back in the early 2000's, Leeds United were parting with huge transfer sums and the wages to match, with high profile signings like Rio Ferdinand, Robbie Fowler, Robbie Keane, Seth Johnson, and Olivier Dacourt just a few of the names who spring to mind.

The last five seasons has seen the club be active in the transfer market as always, but not all signings have been a success.

There is always a risk when you adopt the approach Leeds United have, in that the club has opted for relatively untried and untested players on more than one occasion, and it has backfired dramatically.

Here, FLW writer Lee Connor takes a look at THREE of the worst signings Leeds United have made over the past five years...

Edgar Cani

Despite only spending a really short time at Elland Road, Edgar Cani jumps to mind as one of the 'sick six' who refused to play for the club away at Charlton Athletic.

Cani did nothing for Leeds, and was swiftly moved on after only a few months with the club.

A very very strange signing, and one clearly made by influences outside of the management team, Cani will be remembered for literally nothing other than being part of a group of players who refused to play for this great club.

Casper Sloth

The Dane was a £600k signing back in 2014, a fairly hefty fee for a club in the Championship to invest on a relatively unknown talent.

That talent has proved to be a bit of misconception, as Sloth has offered nothing during his time at Elland Road.

Sloth completed a move away from the club this summer, returning to his homeland where he will be hoping to kickstart his career again. The signing of Sloth was another example of a club blowing money on someone with no reputation or proof of ability in the English game.

Scott Wootton

While there has probably been worse players to play for the club during the last five years, the fact that someone of Wootton's ability cost £1m, is a worrying sign indeed.

Wootton is often slow and inept in his performances, with many Leeds fans growing frustrated at his ever increasing poor performances last season.

While the club have signed some rubbish from foreign clubs who could probably make an argument to be in his article ahead of Wootton, he makes it in based on his fee and all around lack of defensive ability.
