There is much uncertainty surrounding the remainder of Cardiff City's season following the EFL's fixture suspension, but the Bluebirds will also have half an eye on next campaign as the transfer window draws closer.

Neil Harris has performed a solid job since taking over from Neil Warnock back in mid-November, with the former Millwall boss having led the Bluebirds on a charge towards the play-offs as they currently sit just two points adrift of sixth spot.

This is a marked contrast to the state of play for Cardiff following Warnock's departure, with Harris having managed his playing resources with great effectivity to give the south Wales side a serious promotion shot when the season resumes.

However, this is certainly not a make-or-break situation for Harris who will definitely get the summer to put his own stamp on the squad, with there being a number of key areas that the Bluebirds boss will target in order to strengthen the squad.

Here, we take a look at two of Harris' main priorities this summer...

The right-back slot

Cardiff supporters were left stunned on January's transfer deadline day when right-back Lee Peltier departed the club to join West Brom, with this leaving Jazz Richards and Wolves loanee Dion Sanderson as the club's only two natural right-backs.

Sanderson has since established himself in Peltier's former role with the 20-year-old having received plaudits for his displays, but the fact he is only on loan until the end of the season means this is still a problem area for the Bluebirds in the summer.

Cardiff may attempt to re-sign Sanderson on a loan or permanent deal if he continues to impress in south Wales, but while this may be the Bluebirds' initial priority, they must also have some back-up options in case this deal cannot be agreed ahead of next season.

Improving Cardiff's creativity

Lee Tomlin has comfortably been the main source of creativity for Cardiff this season, with the attacking midfielder having scored seven goals and seven assists after being entrusted with a regular spot in the side since Harris' arrival in the Welsh capital.

However, it was clear to see how much the Bluebirds missed Tomlin during his injury lay-off over the last four matches, and Harris would definitely benefit from adding another source of creativity to his ranks over the summer in order to increase his options.

This would ensure that Cardiff are not lacking a creative edge whenever Tomlin is not available for inclusion, while it would help equip the Bluebirds' squad for a serious promotion push over the course of the campaign if top-flight football is not managed this term.
