When it comes to squad depth in the Sky Bet Championship, you will struggle to find many better than Sheffield Wednesday.

With big name players such as Almen Abdi, Ross Wallace and David Jones and more all finding it difficult to nail down a starting place in the team, it is a real indicator of the quality that Carlos Carvalhal has at his disposal in this current Sheffield Wednesday squad.

Within the Owls set-up they also have a number of high quality youngsters with lots of potential, though whether they can fulfil this potential remains to be seen.

With so much talent in the big name players above them in the pecking order, they could find it hard to make a name for themselves not only at Sheffield Wednesday but in the Championship in general.

Making the leap from academy football to first team football is one of the hardest things any young player has to do in their career.

So here are two Sheffield Wednesday wonderkids who are surely destined to flop...

Joe Wildsmith

Joe Wildsmith

After Joe Wildsmith was assigned the number two shirt at the start of the season it suggested that he was to be the Owls' back up 'keeper this season.

However, the 20-year-old has only made one appearance so far this season which was in the cup.

He made a name for himself last season when he was a part of the side that beat Arsenal in the League Cup but has failed to have any more opportunities to battle current number one Keiren Westwood.

Wildsmith has huge amounts of potential to go far, but at this stage in his career he needs to be developing his game and looking for first team football week in week out, which he is currently not getting.

Cameron Dawson

Another goalkeeper with plenty of potential but is finding chances in the first team extremely hard to come by is Cameron Dawson.

Custodian Keiren Westwood, as well as Joe Wildsmith and Jake Kean are all seemingly above Dawson in the pecking order at the moment and he needs to start playing regular football to avoid being a flop.

The 21-year-old undoubtedly has talent and quality and a move away from Hillsbrough would certainly be the best thing for a young 'keeper who needs game time in order to continue his development and fulfil his potential.
