Sheffield Wednesday’s frustrating season continued on Saturday when Hull City scored a last minute equaliser to snatch a point at Hillsborough.

It consigned the Owls to a fourth consecutive draw and leaves them eight points away from the play-offs.

Given the poor run, speculation is seriously mounting over the future of manager Carlos Carvalhal, although if he does survive the next few weeks then the January window could be critical for any hopes Wednesday have of making the top six for a third successive season.

The return of Fernando Forestieri next month will be significant, although Carvalhal is sure to want to strengthen further.

However, he may also want to move some players on who don’t feature in his plans, and here are two Owls players who will be looking for a loan move when the window opens.

Atdhe Nuhiu

The big striker came from nowhere to score the equaliser against Ipswich a few games ago and that saw him keep his place on the bench for the previous two games and he got half an hour on Saturday.

But, it’s still only four Championship appearances for the Kosovo international all season and he certainly seems a last resort type for Carvalhal.

The return of Forestieri will mean there’s even more competition for places and in reality it pushes Nuhiu to fifth or maybe even sixth choice.

There could yet be an attacking arrival in January too, so with that in mind it would be best for Nuhui to look for regular football elsewhere.

Almen Abdi

The former Watford man is another who has struggled to make any sort of impact at Hillsborough this season.

Whilst he has suffered with injuries, it’s only one appearance in the league for Abdi and that came in August, where he lasted just 45 minutes.

Even though Carvalhal clearly doesn’t know his best team, demonstrated by the number of changes he makes, there still doesn’t seem to be room for Abdi.

It’s also a position they’re bound to strengthen in come the window and it’s hard to see how he will get a game. A loan seems the best option for all parties.
