Sheffield United are hoping to end their six-season association with League One by winning promotion during the 2016/17 campaign, ending several years of misery and frustration.

Boss Chris Wilder has guided his team to second place in the third tier and he will be hoping to oversee the Blades’ return to the Championship when May comes around.

The South Yorkshire-based club spent money during the January transfer window, with the board of directors leaving no stone unturned in the quest to win promotion back to the second tier.

The current squad which Wilder has at his disposal boasts a mixture of players with a wealth of experience and others who are youngsters destined to play at a higher level which combined makes for a healthy mix.

Football League World writer Lee Clarke looks at two members of the current Sheffield United squad who are simply out of their depth.

Marc McNulty

The Scottish striker has featured 18 times for the Blades in League One this season, but has managed just one goal during the campaign.

Many Blades followers believe that McNulty is surplus to requirements at Bramall Lane, with many predicting that he might leave the club during the recent transfer window.

The 24-year-old is out of contract during the summer and looks almost certain to depart United.

Chris Hussey

The Blades left-back joined the club during the summer from Bury and he has featured just seven times in the league for Chris Wilder’s team this season.

Hussey is some distance away from being of the required quality to improve the Blades’ first-team and should probably be offloaded during the summer.

At 28-years-old Hussey needs to be playing football every week and he quite simply won’t do that at Sheffield United.
