After a number of difficult seasons for the League Two side, Portsmouth's season has been excellent so far as they sit fourth in the Sky Bet League Two table.

Portsmouth sit just outside of the automatic promotion places as they are just three points behind Carlisle United, who currently hold the third automatic promotion place.

Paul Cook has done an excellent job as he has enabled Portsmouth to get into a healthy position as one of the favourites to gain promotion from League Two this season.

Despite Portsmouth's success so far this season, there are some players who have been used sparingly and drifted to the fringes of Portsmouth's squad.

FLW writer Elliott Wheat-Bowen looks at TWO Portsmouth players who need to leave for the sake of their careers....

Noel Hunt

Summer acquisition Noel Hunt appeared to be an astute signing for Portsmouth after joining from Southend United in the summer.

The veteran centre-forward who has vast experience in all four divisions in England could have provided the experience and know-how to help Portsmouth gain promotion back to League 1.

However, despite making 14 League Two appearances, 12 of which have been as a substitute, Hunt has failed to impress.

The 34-year-old striker has only managed to score once and provide one assist in eight appearances in all competitions so far this season.

As Noel Hunt comes towards the end of his footballing career, the former Republic of Ireland international may seek a club where he can play regular first team football, therefore, he may need to leave in the summer for the sake of his career.

Drew Talbot

After joining Portsmouth from Sky Bet League One side Chesterfield, Drew Talbot would have been hoping to make a good impression at such a prestigious club.

However, the 30-year-old defender has done quite the opposite since making the switch to Paul Cook's side last summer.

The 30-year-old full-back has only managed to make five League Two appearances so far this season for Pompey, having fallen down the pecking order behind Gareth Evans.

As well as falling down the pecking order, Talbot has been unlucky with his injury record, having been sidelined with a hamstring injury.

After starting in Portsmouth's first five League Two matches, the former Chesterfield defender has not been in Portsmouth's matchday squad since late November, Talbot may be one of the players who needs to leave at the soonest possible moment for the sake of his career.
