The ambition for Sheffield Wednesday was clear from the start of the season; they wanted to get to the Premier League.

After a very up and down start to the campaign, the Owls finally hit form and have sat in and around the play-offs for many months now.

But as we find ourselves getting closer to the finishing line, Wednesday are left looking over their shoulders with just a two point gap over seventh place Fulham - who can go above them if they win their game in hand tonight.

It would be a huge disappointment for everybody connected with the club if they were to fail in their attempt at promotion so they will be doing everything in their power to reach their aim.

If they are to make it then they could do with their big players rising to the occasion on a weekly basis to push them over the line in the remaining nine matches of the season.

Over the next couple of pages, FLW writer Tom Rawcliffe has identified 2 Sheffield Wednesday players who are needed to be on top form...

Jordan Rhodes

Jordan Rhodes was signed for big money in the January transfer window (eventually) by Sheffield Wednesday in the hope that his goals could secure them a place in the top six.

The forward's record of 3 goals in 9 games is certainly not a bad return but when you put his heavy price tag and his 94 Championship goals into perspective, you couldn't be blamed for wanting more from him.

If Rhodes could hit a purple patch in the last 9 games of the season, it could massively help his side's push for a place in the play-offs.

Ross Wallace

At stages throughout his time at Hillsborough, Ross Wallace has found himself having to fight for a place in the side.

But this season he has shown that at the age of 31 he still has much more to offer, and with 5 goals and 5 assists so far this campaign, he's had a big part to play.

If the Scottish winger can continue to contribute to Wednesday's attacking play then he could assist Rhodes in his aim of scoring more goals to send Wednesday into the play-offs.
