It's been a seriously strong season for Jaap Stam down at the Madejski Stadium, and his Reading outfit are on the cusp of securing a very impressive Championship play-off spot as the end of the campaign draws closer.

Few gave the Royals much hope of garnering a play-off push this season considering the sort of opposition that resides in the Championship these days but under former Man United defender Stam, they've performed fantastically well, outdoing their opponents and keeping up their strong run of form.

But looking ahead and whether the Royals get promoted or not, Stam is going to need to strengthen this summer.

They've looked a little thin on the ground at times this season and despite all of their successes, they would really benefit from some fresh, talented faces at the club.

So with that in mind, here's the TWO players that really need to be on Stam's shopping list this summer...

Kyle Bartley

Kyle Bartley has shone at Leeds United this season and when his loan deal expires with the Whites, he's set to return to South Wales to a manager who didn't sign him in the first place.

That could open up the possibility of a permanent transfer away from the club this summer and after his performances this season, there's absolutely no reason why Stam shouldn't sign Bartley up.

He's been strong, determined and has chipped in with goals too- a cracking season.

Patrick Bamford

The Royals need to save Patrick Bamford from his nightmare at Middlesbrough.

The 23-year-old is seeing his playing career pass by and he needs to find a club that appreciates him and gives him the minutes he needs to progress.

Proven in the Championship, the striker would be a fantastic acquisition for Jaap Stam's side, and his experience of playing with current Royal, John Swift, back at Chelsea would make it a shrewd signing.
