Brighton & Hove Albion, as a whole, have very little to complain about this season having continued their battle to eventually gain promotion to the top flight.

This season has been welcome, having previously been accused of "bottling" it in previous campaigns.

I think most of the squad have added a positive contribution to the club since Chris Hughton arrived on the south coast as manager in December 2014 and there sees to be a real buzz around the Amex of late.

The reasoning for that is quite obvious as you only have to look at the league table.

To every great boss there will always be downsides, just like with anyone in any industry, but the disadvantages to having Hughton at the Seagulls are massively outweighed by the positivity he has brought to East Sussex.

However, we can't just ignore the members of the first team who have received bad treatment by the gaffer and it is important that some have gone in the opposite direction to everyone else, it seems.

Here are two players at Brighton & Hove Albion who have regressed under Chris Hughton...

Kazenga LuaLua

Having began his Brighton & Hove Albion career so promising and with bags of potential, Kazenga LuaLua has been unable to go as far as he would have liked under manager Chris Hughton.

The 26-year-old winger was only given a handful of appearances in the first half of the campaign.

In fact, he played just five times for the first team between August and January before the opportunity for a loan move came up.

LuaLua has shone at Queens Park Rangers since the transfer but will return to the Seagulls this summer and there is no doubt he won't be looking forward to that.

He was most definitely a better player before Hughton arrived at the Amex and zero progress has been made in his playing career, it's gone backwards.

Elvis Manu

The Dutchman was brought to England by Chris Hughton in the summer of 2015 when he arrived for an undisclosed fee from the Netherlands outfit Feyenoord, but he has enjoyed little success on the south coast.

Elvis Manu signed for Brighton with a lot of potential and promising things were expected of the youngster but, in my opinion, I think the manager hasn't fully utilised all his good attributes as much as he would have liked.

The 23-year-old had a loan stint at fellow Championship side Huddersfield Town last season and that didn't go to plan, so was forced to earn his way back into the picture at the Amex.

Manu played on five occasions for the Seagulls' first-team before making a temporary switch back to his native country to play for Go Ahead Eagles, where he is thriving.

I personally blame Hughton for his lack of progression and actually losing his potential.
