Wolverhampton Wanderers have had a disappointing season by their own admission but there have been flashes of a potentially bright future since Paul Lambert took over.

Wolves performed excellently away at Nottingham Forest last week to earn a 2-0 win and clamber 5 points clear of the drop zone.

The January transfer window is fast approaching and we can expect Wolves to be very busy in the new year.

Paul Lambert has already expressed his shock at the amount of fringe players they have so expect a big exodus and when he thins his squad down, he'll look to add quality rather than quantity.

Lambert will be looking to undo the transfer business done by Walter Zenga and bring in his own players ahead of a potential relegation battle.

Here are two players that Lambert simply has to have on his mind ahead of the January window.

Antonio Martinez

Nottingham Forest v Rotherham United - Sky Bet Football League Championship

Young Spanish striker joined West Ham in the summer from Valencia and has hit the ground running in England.

With 13 goals in 11 matches for West Ham's youth side, including a brace against Coventry in the EFL Cup and a superb hat trick against Wolves recently, the 18-year-old looks like a star in the making.

The worst thing Bilic can do is give him the occasional 15 minutes and hamper his progress so the prolific striker should spend half a season on loan in the Championship, with Wolves desperate for a goalscorer.

Ben Marshall

Marshall - 1150769-18058953-640-360

Paul Lambert should definitely aim for a reunion with versatile player Ben Marshall, who he managed at Blackburn Rovers.

The 25-year-old's contract with Blackburn runs out in the summer so he could be available for as little as £1.5m.

Marshall is able to play on both wings, as a central midfielder or as a right back and this makes him an ideal capture for Wolves.
