Enjoying revitalised form under the guidance of Steve Bruce, Aston Villa sit just six points behind the play-offs and could find themselves on the brink of a position in the top-six come the New Year, if the final two matches of 2016 go their way.

Last year's relegated Premier League outfit have the talent within their ranks to compete for an immediate return to the top-flight and that will remain as Villa's objective for the remainder of the campaign.

However, as they're part of a competitive chasing pack, they may need January signings to set themselves apart.

Fortunately, there's plenty of options for Bruce to assess before the window opens in just a few weeks time and we've identified two players here who should definitely be on the shopping list of the former Hull City boss.

Should they secure these two signings next month, you'd certainly back Villa amongst the favourites to achieve promotion.

Josh Windass

The young Rangers man has earned a lot of plaudits for his performances since moving to Scotland in the summer and that's led to a wealth of Championship sides being linked to his signature.

Aged just 22, he's definitely an option Steve Bruce could consider.

Young Jack Grealish is clearly destined for big things and Windass' arrival would lessen the blow if Grealish does leave, whilst if he stayed Villa would boast two of the finest young midfielders within the English game.

Abel Hernandez

Heavily linked with a move to Aston Villa ever since Steve Bruce took over at Villa Park, the Uruguayan is said to be keen on a reunion with his former Hull City boss.

He's certainly the sort of striker that could catapult Villa towards success.

With question marks over the future of Rudy Gestede, who could even move the other way in a deal bringing Hernandez to Villa Park.

Bruce would be wise to move for this experienced striker as he's the sort of signing who could be the missing link to Villa's promotion charge.
