Aston Villa have been flying since Steve Bruce took charge and they're now just three points behind the play-off spots in the Championship, with the form guide suggesting the Midlands club are right up there in the promotion chase.

Whilst their deficit may only be small, the fact is Villa are the trailing party in the chase and need to catch up with those ahead of them.

As such, the January transfer window will be crucial for the club to ensure the right deals are made.

In order to keep the squad fresh, some players may have to depart as others come in and it looks like Rudy Gestede may be offloaded to make way for a new striker coming in - with West Brom linked with a January swoop.

It's not all bad for the striker though, as he'll land a Premier League move as a result.

Gestede is unlikely to be the only man leaving Villa Park though and we've identified the two players who could be following the striker out of the exit door.

Jordan Amavi

Aston Villa v Fulham - Sky Bet Championship

The 22-year-old French defender has featured heavily for Aston Villa this season but he attracted heavy interest in the summer, including that of Liverpool, and the Reds are believed to be reviving their interest in the New Year.

However, there's also alleged interest from Marseille and whilst the player himself is playing down the chances of a move, it's going to take a miracle for Amavi to stay put at Villa Park.

The youngster is destined for better things and Villa should earn a pretty penny for his services, which could be used to improve the squad in other areas and potentially prepare themselves for life back in the Premier League.

Libor Kozak

Derby County v Aston Villa - Sky Bet Championship

The 27-year-old has featured just twice for Aston Villa this season and has not made a single appearance since August.

Given that, it's pretty obvious that the former Lazio man is surplus to requirements at Villa Park in the eyes of Steve Bruce.

Since arriving three years ago, the Czech Republic international has managed just 20 league appearances and has just four goals to boot.

It's clear the experienced man isn't cut out for English football and a return to Italy, where he spent five years, could be beneficial.
