Sky Bet Championship outfit Nottingham Forest secured a 0-0 draw against Wigan Athletic over the weekend to remain six points clear of the relegation zone in the second tier.

It remains a critical period for the Reds, however, with Brighton and Hove Albion next up for Gary Brazil's men at the City Ground before what looks to be a season defining trip to Burton Albion the following week.

The Reds must stay in the Championship if they are to move forward as a football club and the next month will be massive for those of a Nottingham Forest persuasion.

In truth the Reds' squad isn't that bad on paper and there is no doubting that the club has underachieved once again during the 2016/17 campaign, which could mean that certain players look towards pastures new during the summer.

Football League World writer Lee Clarke looks at two players who may need to leave to the City Ground in order to better their careers.

Matty Cash

It would be a sickening blow if Forest were to lose another product of their youth academy but there is every chance that young Cash could need to leave in the summer.

Cash is a quality midfielder but Gary Brazil has an unhealthy obsession with playing him out wide, a position in which he doesn't look natural and is very rarely effective.

If Forest start to play Cash in his more natural position then he will surely thrive, but the persistence on playing him here, there and everywhere could turn his head towards another club.

Britt Assombalonga

Another player who could look to move on from the City Ground is striker Assombalonga, who has been left out of the team in recent weeks at the expense of on loan striker Ross McCormack and new kid on the block Ben Brereton.

Assombalonga's goalscoring ability makes him destined for the Premier League at some stage during his career and there looks literally no chance of that happening with Forest any time soon.

If the former Peterborough United man does want to play in the top flight and test himself at the top level then he will surely need to leave the City Ground in order to do so.
