As Newcastle United look to close in on the Sky Bet Championship title, this season has gone as successful as the Toon Army envisaged at the start of the campaign.

26 victories, six stalemates and just eight defeats have guided Rafa Benitez's men straight to the top of the league standings, however with Brighton and Hove Albion chasing by one point, things could be very interesting as we approach the last 6 games of the campaign.

The gap between the Seagulls and the Geordies could have well been extended, if it wasn't for some lacklustre performances and stuttering form from Benitez's team.

You have to feel that when, rather than if, the Tyneside club achieve promotion back up to the top flight, a massive overhaul will take place at St. James' Park in the summer, and a massive influx of players who can cope with the Premier League environment.

Newcastle already inherit a squad possibly capable of staying up in the Premier League, however as with any team, their youth system is the way forward.

With that being said, here, FLW take a look at TWO wonderkids that surely deserve their chance in the first-team...

Adam Armstrong

Armstrong has been on loan at Barnsley this season, and should be a player who Benitez fast tracks nearer the first-team next season.

Some would heavily argue that the homegrown starlet thoroughly deserves his chance in the first-team, after a glowing loan spell at Coventry City last season where he netted 20 times in 40 appearances.

Furthermore, netting five times in 29 appearances for Barnsley this campaign is hardly a disappointing tally for the striker, with 14 of those 29 appearances coming from the bench, having had to sit behind Sam Winnall for a large majority of the season.

Should the Geordies get promoted this year, which look ever more likely by the day, Rafa Benitez should definitely look to intergrate Adam Armstrong next season.

Jamie Sterry

Another player who has impressed on loan at the Ricoh Arena this season is Jamie Sterry.

The 21-year-old was the shining light for Coventry before his loan spell expired in January, in what looks to be a season culminating in relegation to League Two.

The right-back has definitely shown glimpses of potential over the last couple of years, and a everpresent homegrown star would certainly please the St. James' Park faithful.
