In what has been a turbulent season for Ipswich Town so far this season, Mick McCarthy's side have recovered and are stabilised in mid-table.

Ipswich currently sit comfortably in mid-table in 15th place with an eleven point cushion above Wigan Athletic in the relegation zone.

After a poor run of form and a humiliating defeat to Lincoln City, Ipswich Town have been revitalised with a string of positive results against Reading, Norwich and Brighton which has seen them pull away from the relegation pack.

Mick McCarthy's side has had some standout performers not only for Ipswich Town but more generally in the Championship this season, including Bartosz Bialkowski, Adam Webster and Tom Lawrence.

However, there has also been some players who have fallen out of favour and drifted to the margins of Ipswich Town's squad.

FLW writer Elliott Wheat-Bowen looks at TWO Ipswich Town players who need to leave for the sake of their careers....

Leon Best

In one of the surprise moves of the summer transfer window, Leon Best joined Ipswich Town from Rotherham United on a free transfer.

The 30-year-old striker who had spent some time as a free agent.

However, despite making twelve appearances in all competitions, Leon Best has failed to register his first goal for Mick McCarthy's side.

It appears that Best has fallen out of favour at Ipswich Town as he has not made an appearance since late December, and he has not been in Ipswich's matchday squad for the past seven Championship matches.

As the former Republic of Ireland international continues to drift to fringes of Ipswich's squad, Best may feel the need to leave for the sake of his career as he looks for regular first team football.

Dean Gerken

After playing a regular role in Ipswich's first team in recent seasons, Dean Gerken's limited opportunities have seen him make only two Championship appearances this season, compared to last season when he made 26 Championship appearances.

The excellent form of Bartosz Bialkowski has seen Gerken make only four appearances in all competitions this season.

As the 31-year-old goalkeeper is in the prime of his career, the former Bristol City goalkeeper may seek the opportunity for regular first team football.

With Bartosz Bialkowski proving to be not only one of the most reliable goalkeepers for Ipswich but in the entirety of the Championship, the possibility of Gerken breaking back into the Ipswich side seems increasingly unlikely.

If Gerken does want to pursue regular first team football, he may need to leave in the summer for the sake of his career.
