As things currently stand, Derby County fans are keeping one eye on reaching a play-off spot, although most recognise that it will be a very difficult task as they've left themselves too much to do.

This is despite the recent improvement that has happened since former Birmingham boss Gary Rowett took over.

The new management will be hoping to bring in some new talent from the academy between now and the end of the campaign to be ready for the potential promotion push next season if a play-off place slips out of their grasp.

Having a look at some of the previous Rams wonder kids who have gone on to become real stars at the club or move just proves why the current generation need to be put into the first-team picture.

In modern footballing history, Jeff Hendrick is a great example having made his debut for Derby County at the age of 19 in the 2010/11 campaign and current star Will Hughes is another.

That is just in recent times but there's plenty of similar players who have impressed and gone into the senior ranks at the club - here are 2 wonderkids at Derby County who need to be fast-tracked into the first-team.

Offrande Zanzala

Currently plying his trade in the under-23 team at Pride Park, Offrande Zanzala has first-team experience already that could help his development in the first team for Derby County.

The 20-year-old attacker, originally from DR Congo, enjoyed a month on loan in February at League Two side Stevenage.

He only played two matches for them but did put pen-to-paper on a new deal until 2019 at the Rams whilst he was there.

Zanzala has a lot of potential but never really got the chance under Steve McClaren.

He'll be hoping that Gary Rowett will allow youngsters to embed themselves into the senior squad at some point in the not too distant future.

Farrend Rawson

Farrend Rawson, 20, is one of the promising defenders to emerge at Pride Park in the recent seasons.

The towering 6'4'' centre back is yet to make a single appearance for the Rams' first team - the closest he got was as an unused substitute in the League Cup three years ago.

He has been aided to gain more experience before featuring for the senior team at Derby by being loaned out to Rotherham United and Coventry City, making a name for himself one of the most prospective players to come out of the youth academy at the club in the last two seasons.

Looking at Rowett's defence he has at his disposal, more youngsters are needed to bring in that breath of fresh amongst the camp and Rawson would definitely bring this.

He needs to be handed his chance in pre-season when he returns from Coventry.
