Rangers have had a pretty disappointing return to the Scottish Premier League, by their standards.

The Scottish giants are 11 points off league leaders and bitter rivals Celtic, who have a game in hand over their Old Firm rivals.

Mark Warburton's side were expected to challenge closely along side the reigning champions, but are some way off being at that point.

They'll certainly be looking to strengthen in January in order to make an attempt at catching them, as hard as that looks, and one player they've earmarked for a move is Reading prodigy Liam Kelly, who is turning heads at the Madejski Stadium.

Despite being on loan at Bath City last season, Kelly has impressed manager Jaap Stam since he came in over the summer, and has been promoted to the Royals first-team squad, with four appearances this season.

A move North would be the biggest moment of the 20-year-old's career, but who else could move to Rangers in January?

Here's TWO Championship players that could potentially follow Kelly to Rangers in January...

Sandro

It's been a pretty disappointing spell for Sandro at QPR, since completing his move from Tottenham Hotspur in 2014 following the R's promotion to the Premier League.

His bloated contract means QPR rarely give him a game (he was actually sent off for their under-23's the other day) - and he'll definitely be looking for a move away in January.

A move to Sporting Lisbon collapsed over the summer, and with Joey Barton leaving Rangers, they'll need to replace him with another midfield enforcer, and Sandro could be that man.

Will Grigg

Could Rangers swoop in and pick up the infamous Will Grigg as Wigan Athletic slowly drain down the Championship relegation plughole? It's not a crazy idea.

Grigg is Wigan's top goalscorer, once again, with five goals this season and would be essential for the club if they hope to continue to battle against the drop, but if Rangers were interested, it would be tough to resist.

He was linked with a move to Scotland over the summer, as Rangers' arch rivals Celtic eyed up the Northern Irishman, but no move materialised.
